Spinoff to stretch mark poll... a different question
OK, so the stretch mark poll got me thinking about a different question.
I have always been told that stretch marks tend to be hereditary. So if your mom got them, you are more likely to get them too, no matter what cream or lotion you use to try and prevent them.
My mom never had stretch marks and I didn't get them either with either of my pregnancies.
So, take the poll to see if what I have heard is more often correct!
ETA: Sorry, I forgot to put "other" in the poll choices.

I believe they are hereditary, as I mentioned in the other post. My mom, sis and I all have some on our hips from a growth spurt. I don't have any from pregnancy and my mom didn't either.

Well, there are definintely more responses indicating that your stretch marks or lack of stretch marks followed what your mom had. Obviously there are exceptions, but it looks like the theory that it is hereditary might be right!

I didn't answer the poll because while my mom has alot of stretch marks she didnt get them from the first 2 kids(she had 5). I've only had 2 kids and don't have any but that's not to say I won't with more kids.

my mom doesnt have them and i didnt get them during pregnancy BUT when my stomach was shrinking after delivery i got little tiny lines right around my belly button. they aren't discolored and not super noticeable but still annoying. i hope they go away.

My mom did have some (white ones) that you could only really see when she was tan. She had 3 kids though.
I have none. (Well, one between my belly button piercing holes, but I don't count that)

my mom had them, but only up to belly button.
i got them, but up to my ribs. jessie is 3 mos old, mine are finally not scabbed up anymore.

I don't have any on my tummy.

Well in my family there are 6 daughters ( 5 have had kids), here is the run down:
Mom (was average before PG) - no stretch marks
D#1(was thin before PG) - some stretch marks
D#2 (was average before PG) - none until child #3 and then major
D#3 (was SKINNY before PG) - lots of stretch marks
D#4 (was heavy before PG) - no stretch marks
D3% (was heavy before PG) - lots of stretch marks

Mom was morbidly obese her whole life. That being said, one would think she would have bad stretch marks. she did not. Myself and both of my sisters were also morbidly obese - none of had them or have them now.
