Ive had it done with my first..put me into labor, but my body wasnt ready, so I had trouble progressing, which led to a c section!

thats what happened with my son..it caused him to change position-resulted in posterior and I previously broke my back in three places and then failure to progress and c-section.
I personally would refuse them now. The baby doesn't stay in there forever--it will come out

I had it done on Friday and it didn't do anything for me.

Re: Spinoff to stripping membranes....who has had it done and does it work?

My dr. did it a couple times. I was 1cm dilated and 60-70% effaced at my 38 week appt when she did it the first time. I lost my mucous plug in the couple days that followed and had periods of regular, mild contractions.

At 39 weeks, I was 2cm/70% effaced when she did it again. I had more contractions after that but they would always stop.

I had every labor sign in the book after my 38-week appt. At my 40-week appt, I was 3cm/80% effaced during contractions (which I was having but didn't feel them) and was sent into the hospital for some help with the pitocin.

So, in my experience, stripping membranes probably helped me progress BUT it also messed with my head. I thought I would go into labor soon every day since my 38 week appt. My advice is to not get your hopes up too high if you do have it done.

For my second birth, I will not let the dr. do it unless I'm in labor already but need help progressing. I didn't have a choice this time..she did it without asking.
