SPINOFF- to telling your boss. Was there a negative impact after telling?
Just curious, once you came out and told your boss about your pregnancy did he/she take it in a negative light? Has it impacted your job in a negative way?

Re: SPINOFF- to telling your boss. Was there a negative impact after telling?
Well Im a preschool tacher. My boss 1st screamed with joy, hugged me so tight and then asked when my due date was. Well being Im at the end of May I wont be finishing out the school year, so with that she is worried. Then on top of it I also do afterschool, as in closing down the school, Im in charge and responsible for everyone, adults and kids and if she isnt there and parents are late Im stuck there til they come. So instead of doing 3 nights I told her as of the end of this month Im going down to 2. I more or less did that also cause she was screwing me on our deal when I took the 3rd night last year. Now she has to find someone cause she doesnt want the other girl doin it that is working the other nights. Noy my prob but, oh well. All I know is she is treating me differently then any of the other girls that have been preggo while working there. I have been there for 14 yrs and she never left anyone alone in a room taking care of kids and she is doing it to me. Im just waiting til I get big and tell her either give me someone or Im out even earlier.

Re: SPINOFF- to telling your boss. Was there a negative impact after telling?
Im a little concerned telling my boss this time around. I work at a small practice..was only me and another co-worker. Well, that co-worker quit last week (a lot of tension in the work place because of this) and this girl was the glue of the practice. Anyway, that now leaves me...I am no where near experienced as she is and my job title is different than hers but now Im preggo so even if I did take the job I wouldnt lol because of obvious reasons. Boss did hire someone to replace my co-worker but she is obviously new and well, we dont know if shes going to work out or not. I guess my issue is as I get bigger and may need days off or when I finally leave for maternity leave...ah, I dont think shes going to take this news too well.

I too work for a small practice and there have been a few babies born in the last few years. I did not get a negative reaction at all but was dreading telling because there had been negative comments in the past about hiring women of child bearing age. It has the potential to change at any moment but for now it has been good. I know the stress you feel, I felt that way for the few weeks before I told them

All my bosses have been great. To the point where they ask me everyday how I feel. I work for Dr's so I think they enjoy happy news and are always asking to see sonogram pics. I was relieved that I didn't have a hard time.

Yes... for me very much so.
Everyone was happy for me - but I took a 4 month leave. I came back and much of my work had been farmed out. I loved my job, but it was pretty clear soon after I was back that there was much much less for me to do. I left when my DC was 14 months.

Im sorry So for you it was a negative reaction once you returned to work? How was it before you left?

Re: SPINOFF- to telling your boss. Was there a negative impact after telling?
It was fine with DD#1. However, my bosses changed while I was on maternity leave and when I came back it was never the same. I left when DD was 14/15 months.
I haven't told yet with #2 but am nervous!

Re: SPINOFF- to telling your boss. Was there a negative impact after telling?
I work in a small practice as well. I told them at 8 weeeks because we had a patient with shingles and obviouslly couldn't be around them. I've worked for the doctors for 5 yrs but have been out for 1.5yrs ( long story). They were very happy for me but it caught them off guard since I had only been back to work about 5 months. In the end I have not called out sick except 1 days for.my Dd when she had 105 fever and I have never used my pregnancy as an excuse to be unable to perform tasks. My boss actually said yesterday that he cannot believe I'm 9 months pregnant and have not called in or complained at all. I've made 2 l&d trips and went to work the following day with no complaints. I think it all depends on how you handle the pregnancy in the field. I'm sure it will be fine and make them aware that you want/need to come back you aren't going anywhere

Thanks! The thing is Im not sure I want to come back This might actually be a good excuse for me to leave and not return. I just dont want it to be awkward and be treated unfairly during the 9mths of my pregnancy while Im still working there.

With my first pregnancy, my boss was awesome!
My second (different company), I was conveniently let go a week later. It was a blessing is disguise though.

Re: SPINOFF- to telling your boss. Was there a negative impact after telling?
I haven't told anyone at work yet (still kinda early) but I accepted a new position at the same place right before finding out. I will be the only the only person there with that job title, so the administrator was very clear about needing me there consistently and, if I have to call out sick, try to give one day's notice. Now that i found out I'm pregnant, I don't know what to do. I really, really want this job...

Re: SPINOFF- to telling your boss. Was there a negative impact after telling?
My boss was happy for me the first time and I think he was even happier the second time (he just had his first DC earlier this year so I think he is more "excited" now that he's experienced it as well). His boss hugged me.

Re: SPINOFF- to telling your boss. Was there a negative impact after telling?
My boss was a nightmare when I told her -- she still considers it "one of the greatest tragedies of 2011" lol. But I know it's just because she needs me and is scared I'm not going to come back. She's been getting better, but she'll never be full okay with it.
