Spinoff to the spinoff...pregnancy announcements?
What are your thoughts on this?
YOu just had a baby, 7 weeks early. The little peanut is in the NICU on a vent and you are still reeling from all of this.
Your sister tells you she is PG. In front of your immediate family, siblings and parents. PS - it's her 2nd child. You just had your first.

Well, if it were my sister, and I was laying in the hospital bed right after birth, I'd be a little peeved.
I'd still wish her congrats, and say sorry I can't be a little happier for you right now, with just having a preemie in NICU and all.

ditto. each of my nieces and nephews i treat as if they were my own child so when i hear that one of my sisters is pregnant i just pray to God that the baby is healthy.

While I understand the "sad" part of the baby in the NICU, I don't know why she should not announce it.
Doing it at the hospital in your room? NO, not very tactful.

I wouldn't do that to my sister - and she wouldn't do that to me
I would not tell her something like in the situation-
I would be more concerned about the baby in NICU
but of course- when things calmed down- we would be very happy for the newly prego sister
I should say in my family we try to be very sensitive to anything like this- we don't have my Mom with us- so even a happy occassion - like a new baby- is not the same for us- it's sad but true

Not truly being there, its much easier said then done, but I would try and look past my sadness and be happy for my sister. Every child is a blessing and should be celebrated. I would like to think the she meant to spread happiness not outshine anyone or bs like that.

Yeah I agree with this. I can't say because I have never been in that sitatuation, but I can safely say I would be truly happy for them.

even though I responded already, I want to add that a post like this (well in all situations) when asking "how would you feel" it GREATLY depends on the relationshp between 2 individuals, whether neighbors or sisters.
things can be done with malicious intent, and things can be done with not a bad bone in one's body and jsut be taken the wrong way.
we can all respond as an overall "Of COURSE I'd be happy for her" but we dont know details of the baby in the NICU  and how traumatized and crushed the mom may be, and how this new baby info was presented...
it's a very fine line. and the outcome could be one extreme or completely another...
just felt I had to say that, because although I agree with "be happy for her" im sure it's easier said than done, especially not being in her shoes or knowing the dynamics of the situation.
