The girls from "rich" families down in the south come out as debutantes.....
I invited coworkers to my house during the summer for "a BBQ". They laughed their butts off at me -- they said "BBQ is pork!". They say "come over for a cookout". I'm in NC....

When a woman gets a new purse or pocketbook, we pass it around so the men can put some money in it.
You should have seen some of the looks I got from that!

FH's family does this!! the first time they did it i was mortified bc i announced the new bag FH got me and then they started filling it up!
in my family we only do it when a little girl gets a new bag not a 20 year old with a coach bag! 
idk where its from but we raise our feet when going over train tracks.

I hate that too! My friend from Illinois swears it's NOT a midwest thing & we blame televison.  Maybe it's a west coast thing?
And as mentioned before--debutantes! I've heard of it inthe mid-west as well as the south, but not here.

Bride & groom at the cocktail hour?
We were at ours ... and got announced with the BP at the reception.

I went to cocktail hour, not strange at all. Actually, every wedding I have been to on LI, the bride and groom went to cocktail hour. At least for part of it.

That's what I was going to say. I grew up in TN. and we always had them.
Also the difference in weddings is big. My family was so confused about the dancing being between courses.

Gym class is referred to as PE
People do it here as well since it is no longer 'gym'. They are required to do more than throw a basketball around and play dodgeball. They are taught about the human form and how to keep fit. It is VERY different from when I went to school. There are many more differences, but you'd have to ask my hubby who's the PE teacher

thinking that the Olive Garden is good Italian food is pretty strange to me but not to people outside of NY
Sadly, when you move Olive Garden is the best itialian food you can get.
I used to hate that place but I live in FL with not a lot of good itialian places and DH works at corporate headquarters and well...I am not addicted to thte stupid breadsticks.
