Spinoff to vaccines/hep-b shot in hospital
Is the potassium shot in the hospital mandatory? What is it for/what does it do?
What about the "goop" in the eyes? do they still do that?

There is a lot of controversy on whether or not you can refuse the vitamin K shot and erythromycin. It is state mandated but there are a few ways to refuse them. I'm not going to get into why some of it isn't necessary cause Last time I got flamed really bad.
I suggest you do your research on it and discuss it with your pediatrician and/or OB

Here in CO we can refuse. We only refuse the Hep B and allowed the Vitamin K and the antibiotic eye oint.
Definitely do your research and decide with your OB what you are comfortable with.

I was told I could refuse it but then I would be opening myself up to investigation from CPS or something I just let them do them but I did refuse the Hep B.

Unfortunately, I think it's pretty hard to refuse the vitamin K shot and the eye goop. I would love to refuse the eye goop. My son didn't cry when he was born -- not until they put that junk in his eyes. My understanding is that the eye goop would prevent blindness in babies born to mothers with gonorhea (sp?) -- since I don't have that I don't think my baby needs it. But, I have heard it's not really a choice. I've heard they'll call CPS if refuse -- don't know if that's true or not.

Wow. I'm sorry you got flamed just for sharing information. I'm interested in what you have to say -- could you FM me if you're not comfortable posting it?
