Not including your 401k, or ESPP. J

ust talking about what goes into your savings each month.

We try to put away about $3,500 a month but sometimes it's super hard.

Re: Spinoff to what you do to save money - How much do you save each month?

before dh and in my apartment i saved $1000 a month, and in addition, i was banking my bi-yearly bonuses.

now with a mortgage, were lucky if we save anything month ot month, however i do still bank my bi-yearly bonuses straight into savings account so i guess that counts.

I think this totally depends upon if you have a house, kids or you live well beyond your means or live frugally.

I think it would be more accurate if people posted the percentage saved of their net take home pay.

Wow - we aren't anywhere near that. DO you mind me asking, do you own a home already?

We put away around $2K (sometimes more - depends on bonus, DH's union benefits), but we don't own a home yet.

DH and I have been able to save almost my whole salary. I guess in this instance, it's a good thing we rent. otherwise we would be saving squat Chat Icon

I agree...

so far this year we've put away about 40% of our net income

At least $1,000 per month. We rent - and we're not saving towards a home...don't want one right now.

We save very little. We purchased a home last year and our mortgage is just over $4 thousand a month!!! Chat Icon A couple to several hundred at best.

before the wedding and rent, b/w the 2 of us we put away a little less then 1K a month.

now, we are lucky if we save $100. there is no room for saving right now, i know thats a lame azz excuse, but we are just trying to pay bills for now, and worry about saving in the future

We still bank my salary (minus my $100/week "allowance" LOL and my car ins comes straight out of my paycheck) but we're not saving as much as we were before we bought our house (when we were banking $3500-3800/month). We're saving about 2/3 of that now.

Re: Spinoff to what you do to save money - How much do you save each month?

Well, I am sure that when we do buy a house our savings will be much less than it is now! We are debt free, except for DH's school loan so that is one reason we are able to save as much as we do, and I usedto be a HUGE shopaholic. DH has stopped that Chat Icon for the most part!

We are lucky if we save a few hundred a month at this point. We've been tapping into our savings a lot lately.

we save about $2500 a month - but we both live at home. We would save more, but we have tons of student loans we are paying down too!

Me too!! Chat Icon

We save very little right now...$500 at most because we spend it ALL on going out, eating, drinking.

We hope to save around $3K once DH gets his bonus and we become debt free (except for the mortgage and my car). I can't see us saving more...we LOVE to go out and are always entertaining/going to fam's house and bringing liquor. And Patron is $200 a pop for the big bottle! Chat Icon

My checks are for groceries, shopping, going out, etc.
His checks pay the bills. We do have a savings account that hardly gets touched, but its kind of hard to save with loans and all.
