Spinoff to your last pics before birth

First, you all look amazing!!! And my question is - does the epidural REALLY feel that good? There is no question I am getting it but does it really relieve the pain that much?

Also, does it help when you are pushing? Do you feel what's going on at that point (I would imagine burning but I have no idea) or does it numb you to that?

As you can see I'm really getting freaked out about birth!

Re: Spinoff to your last pics before birth

I loved my EPI! All i felt was a pinch and a slight burning sensation when it was administered, THAT"S it! Within seconds i was numb and feeling awesome. I had 8-10 people in my room my whole labor, chatting.

I begged them to keep it going while i was pushing. I couldn't lift my legs, but all i felt was pressure down there telling me when to push. I felt DD come out but No pain at all.

When they shut it off, within 15 minutes I had total feeling back in my legs. Within an hour i was up and walking.

Re: Spinoff to your last pics before birth

the EPI didnt really work for me.
It never numbed my left side at ALL and I only got it 43 minutes before DD was born so it just made my right leg too heavy to lift

I didn't feel anything, but I hated not being able to move my legs.

Re: Spinoff to your last pics before birth

Honestly, the epi was a freakin' dream. I relaxed, watched some Oprah, emailed some people (I went early and had some loose ends to tie up)

But it is NOT perfect for everyone. Mine stopped working on one side when I went to push and it's good for pain, but the pressure at the end WOOHOO!

In the end, I wouldn't have made it without the epi though...

Now let me ask you this. When you girls say pressure - is it like burning pressure? Or pressure like when you are going to the bathroom? (Sorry for all the ???ss)

ANd one more ? -

Do you really just feel the babies head coming out - and then once that out it's pretty much a cake walk from there? OR - is it still hard once the babies head is out? I feel like I have watched videos and once the head is out the rest just comes kind of sliding out.

I loved my epi! My husband joked with me that i as Dr. Jekyll and Mr. Hyde without and with it. I felt better instantly, and my mood totally switched. I was not happy when I was having contractions, and I got sick from one.......... with the epi, I didn't feel a thing. My legs feeling like dead weight was a very strange sensation, but it didn't compare to the contractions. I felt no pain, just pressure when I had to push. I was up walking around no time at all after I had the baby. I loved my epi!

the pressure feeling like going to the bathroom means its time to PUSH. the feeling of the baby coming out was different pressure to me. with the epi it was totally tolerable - by that point i was able to feel it (not bad at all) a little but they say u want to or u will have to push longer...so i opted at the end to feel a little when the nurse put it like that and it was not bad at all. its almost relieving type of pain.

eta - I WOULD NOT HAVE MADE IT EITHER W/O THE EPI!!!

I think it was one or two more big pushes and that was it. the head was the hardest part..(this was me - i dont know if everyone was different though)Chat Icon

for me, the pressure was painful at the end...it wasn't like going to the bathroom, it was like my uterus was gonna fall out (well, a baby wasChat Icon )

ETA: when the baby "finally" crowned after two hours of pushing I felt "the ring of fire" which was it. After she crowned everything else moved by seconds. I had my eyes closed, so when I felt that I thought it was bad and meant the doc would send me for a c-section...and then they laid her on my chest.

All I can say is...Thank Goodness for my epidural!!! It really helped the pain and when I had to push, I felt pressure when the contractions were coming but no pain!

Re: Spinoff to your last pics before birth

The epi was great for me. Didn't hurt much doing in (just a pinch and a feeling of a nerve being hit).
It made me nauseous though after a while. I threw up twice. But it wasn't a big deal; I puked and went back to napping Chat Icon

I had some feeling in my legs - just the right amount.

The urge to push feels like pressure sort of like when you have to poo. And I could feel the baby's head coming out - it burned. That was the only thing that hurt. And he came out with a few hard pushes, so it didn't hurt for long.

same here except for having so many people in the labor roomChat Icon I only had 5 including myself.
No pain, no burning sensation, didnt even know when DD came out, the pushing didnt hurt just hard to catch breathe and it felt like when you are constipated and you push same exact feeling. My legs were super heavy I needed help with them. I didnt even feel the snip snip when my dr. cut me. I did feel him stitch me up and I did feel and it was uncomfortable for me when the dr was removing as much as he could for the cord blood banking.

one word of advice from my own experience. If you notice the next day after giving birth that you are not peeing normally- have them give you a hat and measure your output and or give you a cather right away. I wish I knew this before hand.

I LOVED the epi!!! I don't even remember feeling anything when they put it in. I can't answer your other questions because I ended up with a c-section.

Re: Spinoff to your last pics before birth

My epi was great too. I didn't feel it going in at all. Then when it came to delivering I only felt a little pressure---totally manageable. I had the mirror put at the end of the bed so I could watch the baby be born. It was amazing! The only problem I had was that I couldn't feel one leg for about 10 hours afterwards. That part was a little creepy. Not to mention...the nurses kept making me go to the bathroom in a bedpan Chat Icon Climbing onto one of those is no fun after giving birth. Re: Spinoff to your last pics before birth

I had a good experience with epi with both pg. The second time, I felt the pressure and was able to push the baby out in 3 pushes.
