Spinoff, Why do woman cheat?
I think maybe they don't feel satisfied emotionally and physically, they get bored from routine.
Any other reasons why?

For me when I was dating, I cheated when my BF was not emotionally there for me. I could deal with lack of physical for a while, but emotional distance is too hard for me in a relationship.

when the man cheats, it's because "it's not in his nature to be monogamous", so it's his fault
when the woman cheats, it's because "she's not getting the emotional support" she needs, so in effect, it's also the guy's fault
i'm not trying to be smart, i'm trying to understand the difference

i don't interpret it that way at all. even if the woman is not getting emotional support from her SO, cheating does nothing to improve the situation and she is just as guilty as a man would be.

If you're cheating, it's your fault. Period.
But I think mean and women cheat for different reasons under different circumstances. Some men cheat when their wife/gf is emotionally or physically unavailable and some men cheat for what seems like no reason.
In my experience, I've seen many more men cheat "for no reason" than women.
Also, cheating is more prevalent in men (I believe), I don't think it's b/c men are all azzholes, I believe it's biological

I think men & women cheat for the same reasons. Love, affection, troubled marriage, being unhappy. I don't think it makes a difference, I think wowen hide it better. Stats show that most of the cheaters are women & not men.

I think that is a sweeping generalization of men's needs. I don't believe that is true.
ETA: and also a sweeping generalization of women's needs.
I don't think cheating can be generalized, I think it is a situation by situation basis based on the individuals thought-processes, needs, emotions...

It's a generalization, but this is a general question. We can't answer why each and every man or woman cheats, but we can identify trends of common perceptions.

For an example. I had a bf who was cheating on me left and right. I mean majorly cheating on me. We had been best friends for years. I was 100% emotionally available, I gave him everything I could in the relationship, and he even says he wasn't unhappy in our relationship at all, the sex was just available and he took it.
I cheated on him also in a way. I started spending a lot of time with another guy (Who is now my FH), who was there for me and emotionally available. Once I felt my bf at the time wasn't there for me as a bf, I didn't care to be loyal to him anymore.
He cheated with his ****, i cheated with my heart.
I'm just one story, not everyone is like that..but it's a case I see pretty often.

Where is this trend fact shown? I really never saw proof of this, more like sweeping generalizations from people like us in what they think are the reasons why men or women would cheat. I know two male acquaintances that have cheated because of emotional needs. I also know a female who cheated because and I quote "the guy was hot."

Before I met DH, I cheated on every boyfriend I ever had. Each time I did, it was because I didn't want to be in the relationship. I recognize that I was wrong and I regret hurting people the way that I did, but I know that I personally wasn't looking for emotional support elsewhere - I wanted something new and I wanted out of the relationship.

That is true but I don't believe these "facts" relate to men thinking with their d!cks.
 I think if you are going to examine how men and women are wired differently that is one thing, but you are generalizing that men think with their gonads and women don't. That's not the wiring differently that I've heard of.

This is essentially what I was taught in a human development class in college. Various studies of different species found that males want to have sex with as many females as possible in order to ensure they will have offspring, while women look for one male who will provide support for her and the offspring. Whether this theory applies to humans, who knows? However, I don't think a "men are programmed differently" argument should be any type of excuse for cheating.
