Re: Spinoff- Would you let yours Kids have a TV in their bedroom?
Our son is 2 1/2 and already has one But its a really small one and its not hooked up for tv. Its the kind with the vcr built in and we only got it b/c he has tapes that he really loves and we didnt have a vcr in the living room. Since we only have 1 tv as it is sometimes during the day he will watch a tape in his room and I can *MAYBE* watch a show
He is not allowed to watch it at night only during the day.

Re: Spinoff- Would you let yours Kids have a TV in their bedroom?
we had one in our room growing up, but we never had cable (my parents still don't have cable), so i think it was easier to control it then... TV was also much different (well, on the basic stations, anyway ). but my brother, sister, and I all have the shortest attention spans you could imagine and i sometimes wonder if that had anything to do TV
(though i never watch TV now, so i dont know what to blame it on these days )

I didn't have one in my room until college, but I never really cared that much. I'd rather my kids not have one until they are at least 13.

Re: Spinoff- Would you let yours Kids have a TV in their bedroom?
i definately think its more important to control the viewing time, than where the TV is.... but with DH as an example, i dont know how i'm gonna pull That one off

No. I really don't see any need for a TV in the bedroom. I really feel it just adds to isolating family and breaking down communication.

Yes. Danielle who is 12 years old, will have her own tv once we find her a new bedroom set.
Sofia on the other hand, who is only 2, won't have a tv in her room for many years to come.

I agree.
i think it's ok, as long as you have control over it, or rather set guidelines/limitations. plus, if the family does spend quality time together, doing various things together such as activities in/around the house, or just simply talking during meals, i think its fine.

Re: Spinoff- Would you let yours Kids have a TV in their bedroom?
yes right now I would...although I dont know what age, as I dont have any kids yet. Most of my sisters always have TV's in the kids bedrooms , but for movies only, on tape, no regular tv.

I agree.
Yes, kids have too many "toys" in their room these days. I love it when my friends tell their kids to go to their rooms. I want to say... "Can you send me to their room? For a week, please? It's an amuzement park in there!" It will also disrupt sleep.
I took an informal poll of my high school kids last year. Most of the advanced students did NOT have a TV or computer in their room. Several of my students who are really struggling to pass high school had a tv and computer and they were up to all hours of the night on both. When I would bring this up to parents about possibly limiting the tv time they would totally dismiss the idea. Honestly, I think there are some parents that get too used to the tv as a babysitter and don't want to interact with their families anymore. They tune out the people in their lives and tune on the tv.

I really dont know what I will do.....I know I got a TV at 9 or so that I shared with my sister. But that doesnt mean I was allowed to watch it whenever I wanted to.

Re: Spinoff- Would you let yours Kids have a TV in their bedroom?
I don't think so. I might have one in room other than the living room or family room for them to watch something different, but not in their own room. I think it would be too difficult to monitor what they watch and too much time would be spent watching TV.
I got one when I was in college, that I used in the dorm and then was in my room when I came home for breaks.

Re: Spinoff- Would you let yours Kids have a TV in their bedroom?
I was 14 when I got one. It didn't have cable, but I was happy to get the channels I got! My dad had been very against it because I was a real hermit and he'd said, "We never see you as it is, we'll really never see you if you have a tv in your room." My grandma bought me a tv anyway for my birthday. I think my dad could not really object because I was never in trouble or anything.
Anyway, if/when we have kids, I would let them get a tv in their room when they were 14. But not a computer.

Re: Spinoff- Would you let yours Kids have a TV in their bedroom?
I don't agree with having our children have tvs in their rooms - to me it isn't a necessity - when they want to watch TV - they can come into the living room or basement and watch it all they want.
I also feel like it breaks down the communication and I know that I would be watching it all day long if I was a kid and had a tv in my room - I also agree with not having a separate phone line in my kids room either.....
