Re: Spinoff- Would you let yours Kids have a TV in their bedroom?
interesting article
lower test scores for 3rd graders
this is a funny topic for me today. This weekend I was at my cousin's house and she has an 8 yr old. A TV has been in here room since she was 3, like many of my other cousins. So I made the mistake of saying, I don't want TV's in my kids rooms. She went on the total defensive and said it makes her mad that I don't have kids and I am able to learn from others experiences!!! What?
Now, I personally never talk about parenting to parents, due to the fact that I am constantly told that things will be different when I have them, and there is no way that I will know what is going to happen. So I am not sure why I let this info slip, but I did.

I think when Scotty is 10 I Might let him get one. We really haven't decided yet. HOWEVER, there will be rules and limitations. And I say no way to a computer in his room. Too many risks

Re: Spinoff- Would you let yours Kids have a TV in their bedroom?
My dd got her TV when she was 2 1/2. It was our old one so we just put it in her room. It is GREAT when she wants to watch a movie (also has a VHS player) and we are watching TV in the livingroom. I am ALWAYS checking to see what she is watching and she knows what channels she is allowed and not allowed to watch.

Re: Spinoff- Would you let yours Kids have a TV in their bedroom?
I love my tv so I wouldnt deprive my kids of tv in their room
My daughters share a room right now so they have a tv and a dvd/vcr but we are almost finished with my oldest daughters bedroom upstairs so she too will get a tv. My children know what is acceptable tv and what
I dont see anything wrong with this at all

I don't agree with having our children have tvs in their rooms - to me it isn't a necessity - when they want to watch TV - they can come into the living room or basement and watch it all they want.
I also feel like it breaks down the communication and I know that I would be watching it all day long if I was a kid and had a tv in my room - I also agree with not having a separate phone line in my kids room either.....
I don't agree with this at all. It is not a necessity at all - correct. Neither is adults having a TV in the house. Also DS watches TV in the living room most the time but when he is playing in his room and wants the tv on, what is wrong with that? I just don't see how it breaks down communication And under correct supervision they won't watch it all day long. Thats why you have rules. Not at certain times or only X amount of time per day.

Re: Spinoff- Would you let yours Kids have a TV in their bedroom?
I know that when I got a TV in my room (age 12), I almost never came out of the room and became addicted to TV.
So I think I would prefer not. But I am sure at some age it will be an issue and as a teenager, its a fair request.

I grew up without a TV in my room (as well as no phone), If we wanted to watch TV, we came out and watched it WITH the family, it'll be the same in my house.

Re: Spinoff- Would you let yours Kids have a TV in their bedroom?
I had once in my room since I was maybe, 5? I loved it, I got to play video games whenever I wanted to, etc, but I really ended up watching too much TV. That isn't to say it couldn;t happen with a TV in the livng room, but I think it's better to force the kids out of thr room more. B/w the computer, phone and TV I was in my room 24/7. I'd rather have a family room area for my kids, so they're not sequestered in their rooms all the time.
