Spinoff..Cars - Lease or Buy? (poll)

DH and I have always bought our cars and driven them to the ground. But we have began to contemplate the option of leasing..

So please share your experiences (pros/cons) about either leasing or buying.

IMO leasing is a never ending car payment. I would do it in a heartbeat if I had a job where I could use the lease payment as a write off. but DH and I buy our cars.

I've had no car payments in 5 yrs!! sure I've had to buy new tires, fix brakes, alternator, etc. but it's better than paying $300-$400 a month, every month forever.

I like leasing...b/c I like getting a new car every few years; I don't commute too far now; and after 3 years or so, that's usually when cars start to have issues that get $$$ to fix! I had a BMW before this, and at 3 years, all the electrics were starting to go! Windows, sunroof, etc! (And when I did want to buy it out, Competition BMW told me $10k! It was a 2001 323xi...it was low miles, but still. That was too much!)

i leased my first car bc I didn't have enough $$ to make the monthly payment of a purchase. Then when my lease was up, I got 0% financing & bought my current truck

DH use to ALWAYS lease & then he got his "toy" car on 0% finance. His work car is also bought with a 2.5% finance rate.

In my opinion, the lease was just a another monthly payment with no actual outcome. At least now with my fiance, I have something to show when the payments are up

I am leasing too. I bought my previous jeep, but then thy offered me to come in and see my options for a trade in and that is when I decided to lease (better car, same payment). At this point in time we needed to be on a budget and my other jeep was about 3 + years old and little things were starting to go. Now we have no worries or unexpected expenses. I also requested the higher mileage plan, but I have barely reach the per year amount and I have had it over a year.

We bought the cars we currently have, but our next ones will be leases.

I voted other. I bought my first car. When I got rid of it, I had been dating DH and he's in the business, so I have dealer leases now. I love having the no-hassle of a lease and getting a new car every 3 years.

i was always against leasing. but i like to have a new car every few years before the headahces start, so we now lease.

if you plan on getting rid of it before the payments are paid off it sometimes will leave you with negative equity which makes your next payments higher, so it depends how long you plan on keeping your car.

I feel like leasing is like renting. You are paying for something that isn't yours. It's the never ending car payment. Plus, my commute is too long to lease.

I lease and I love it. New car every three years, no worries about paying for expensive maintenance and the payment is way lower than it would be if I bought.

I've been leasing for years. Wouldn't have it any other way.

As far as leasing for write off, either way whether you buy or lease you can write off expenses, mileage, gas, registration, maintenance..etc..

I don't mind the payment, considering it's lower, I don't have to put a dime down and I can use the rest of the money for other things. It's a depreciative item that I don't need to own.

I also get bored with the car after a while and I look for the new models.

DH buys- you can't lease the cars he likes

mine is leased- for some of the reason Lana said- I like German cars- you never want to buy those- the parts get crazy- and things start to go after 5 years

plus I like to get a new car ever 3 years- and I can't be bother trying to sell it- and when you trade it in- you really don't get back much IMO

We like to lease - The 05 subaru Legacy I have, I own outright. The kia we lease for 2 years and the lease is up this year where we will lease an 08 sportage

If you get tored of a car fast, I would lease, but I buy, because in the long run leasing is more $$$.

Right now, we lease because we needed a new car and we don't put many miles on it. Normally, we would buy and drive it forever.

I have my first ever lease now. I like it because it's only a 24-month lease and it gave me the opportunity to try out the car. I love my car but will be giving it back at the end and buying the same make and model but a few years older.

I put down a few thousand just to get into the car and I feel like that's a terrible waste, so I'll buy in future.

I lease my Altima - it was my first new ca and my first lease. When my lease is up in November, I will lease again. I hate that if I bought I would have to put such a chunk of money down and still have high payments. With leasing I put very little down ad my payments were very low. I love having a new car ever 3 yrs too.

DH bought his Audi. He got a good deal so we can't complain.

I just started a lease on my car. This is our first lease. We only bought our cars before.

Why did I lease this time?

- We just started a family and wanted to see if the car will meet our "growing" family past 3 years
- With the new baby, we are not quite sure of our finance so the lease was a cheaper option.

I voted other b/c we have one of each.

My car is leased and DH's car was bought (paid off now). We love leasing since we get a new car every 3 yrs and never have to worry about really expensive repairs due to an old car. We like having 1 car paid off and one lease.
