Spitting up question
DD seems to spit up ALOT!! It is never projectile, or voluminous amounts, but it goes on all day long. Also, there is alot of mucus mixed in with it. This has recently become much more of a problem than it was a month ago. It is to the point now where she can never be without a bib and a burp cloth, and she is soaking the bibs. Is any of this abnormal? What could be causing it to happen now, or to be getting worse?

Re: Spitting up question
My daughter had reflux with excessive spitting up. I traveled with 10 bibs and 10 burp cloths (no joke) anytime I left the house. The mucous part can sometimes be a sign of a food allergy. Are you BF? Have you tried eliminating anything from your diet to see if it helps?

Re: Spitting up question
That sounds like my Sofia. We go thru about 3-4 bibs/day. She spits up a lot but doesn't have reflux. It is never projectile. I usually try to keep her sitting for about 10-15 mins after eating (she still spits up something but less than if she was active right away). My understanding is it eventually goes away once your child's system matures.
I know the feeling- we're always with a bib which stinks coz you're always worried about her clothes, etc. My DD is now 5 months and i am hoping by the time she is 6 it will stop.
Some kids are just spitters.

Re: Spitting up question
DS is the same way and only started when he was about 8 weeks old now he is 12.5 weeks. What type of formula do you give him?
ETA: I noticed that he chokes on his spit up sometimes does anyone elses do this. It makes me nervous when we go to sleep because I dont hear him unless he makes alot of noise and he is already next to my bed.

Yes, I am BFing (pumped into a bottle). In the beginning, I had eliminated almost everything from my diet, but in the past 2-3 weeks, have been slowly re-introducing some foods. I guess I'll have to go back to the elimination diet. It was just so hard to eat a regular meal -- especially trying to lose weight since I had to cut out all leafy greens and fruits. But, if it will make DD better, I will have to go back to it. Thanks for the info. I didn't know that the mucus might be a food allergy. Thanks.

I'm not giving formula. She gets only BM. I have noticed that a few times she does kind of choke on the spit up. She did it twice while in her bassinett which is right next to me so I was able to scoop her right up. I agree that it does make me very nervous when she sleeps in case she does it and I don't hear her.

Re: Spitting up question
I BF, and DD has mucous in her spit up too. I asked PED and he said not to worry, it's can be normal with BF babies. Gianna also chokes/coughs on her spit up too, that was our sign of relflux. Ever since she's been on meds she only does it maybe once a day instead of all day/night long.
I was told by PED every baby has AR, it's just the severity of it that affects them or not. The piece that closes their tummy off from their esphogus isn't all the way formed, some worse then others, and food/acid can back up. Thank goodness they grow out of it! I always quiz my PED makes me not worry so much
