Spoinoff to question "who watched"

For c-section girls, did your SO watch the surgery over the curtain. At one point I remember the Dr saying to DH that they were going to take the baby out & he could watch & surprisingly...he did!

Did anyone else's DH watch or did they hide behind the curtain?

Re: Spoinoff to question "who watched"

For us, Dh did not get to watch because I ended up getting the general anesthesia so he was not allowed in the room which was extremely disappointing for us.

Re: Spoinoff to question "who watched"

this is a funny story, they asked dh if he wanted to see his dd being born.....he stood up and then sat down immediately, white as a ghost

later on, he told me that when he looked, only the baby's head was outside of my body, the rest of her body had not been delivered Chat Icon Chat Icon he compared it to the movie "alien", I think he is still scarred Chat Icon Chat Icon

I did not want DH watching the first time. I wanted him with me. For the second I was much more relaxed and let him watch - he loved it

Re: Spoinoff to question "who watched"

DH had no desire to watch. I was sort of glad, because I felt like if I wasn't watching (not that I wanted to either Chat Icon ) I didn't really want him to, but I wouldn't have told him that.

Re: Spoinoff to question "who watched"

ooooohhhhhh noooooooo!!! I was afraid he was going to pass out the whole time. But then I had some complications so he didn't even get to go over to DD right away. He was too worried about me. I think he did see a mess on the floor though. Chat Icon

Re: Spoinoff to question "who watched"

Well, he had no choice because the curtain was only high enough so that I couldn't see. He was sitting on the side of me with nothing blocking his view. He said it was like a bad car accident, he wanted to look away, but couldn't. He likes to tell me how he knows me inside and out nowChat Icon

DH has made the alien reference too.....and if you've seen spaceballs, then you also know the spoof to that scene, which he recited to me in the recovery roomChat Icon

Re: Spoinoff to question "who watched"

Since DS was an emergency c/s he was not allowed to watch. I ended up with the up & down incision vs across so he can actually never peek over the screen to watch any child of ours be born since there could be potential problems. But when DD was born, we were able to have a video camera going to capture her first cry and the nurses handing her to him

Re: Spoinoff to question "who watched"

DH was told to stay behind the curtain. So it was not really an option to watch DS "come out".

They did call him to go "behind" the curtain to cut the cord though.

Then he SAW IT ALL!!!!! The guts out, the empty cavity, the bag of goodies with my placenta (that he said was gross!!!), etc... Chat Icon Chat Icon He told me it was like the Discovery channel. I kept begging him for details. He told me how it looked like. I wish he told me more. He is OK with it. I keep asking me for more details once in a while but I think I got all the info he is willing to share. He is a guy. He does not "elaborate".

No and the doctors never said he could. I don't think he would have looked anyway, I know I wouldn't have!

Re: Spoinoff to question "who watched"

The anesthesiologist didn't want DH to look - he said "I can't pick you up if you pass out!"

But DH was insistent that he'd be find and he looked over the curtain just as DH was pulled out...he said it was the coolest moment of his life...

My mom and DH both watched DD as she entered this world. I didn't want to see, it was enough i could see it in the reflection of the spotlight thing above.Chat Icon

Re: Spoinoff to question "who watched"

The anesthesiologist barely let my DH move. He had to stay in his seat. It may have been because I had a reaction to the spinal before DH was allowed into the room.

Re: Spoinoff to question "who watched"

My DH didnt watch. He's an firefighter and EMT and has seen his fair share of stuff that would make the average person very nauseous but he didn't want to watch or see. With my 2nd c/s I was able to see some of my own abdomen reflected in the metal of the overhead light. It wasnt super clear though, just a blur of a lot of red. Chat Icon

ETA: He did see my vbirth...not the same but equally mind blowing

I was wondering if anyone was going to mention that..

I didn't look at it but afterward my Dh said that if I had, I would have been able to see EVERYTHING..

Why would they do that? ughhChat Icon

My DH watched.. he didnt have much to say.. except that it was graphic..

I'm going to ask for more info tomorrow.. I don't think I ever really asked him elaborate on how it was
