SPR.. fondant vs buttercream cake for smash cake?
I know that fondant has a rep for tasting bad (i've never had it) Is fondant edible?
I edited because I forgot to mention that I was considering fondant for DS smash cake.

Re: SPR.. fondant vs buttercream cake
Fondant is edible, but it actually tastes pretty bland to me. My DS loves it though and it makes the cakes look smoother and prettier IMO.

i looooove fondant, but a child will definitely have more fun (and better pics!) with buttercream. Fondant can't be spread/smashed/gooped on faces - it peels like a sheet.

I do not think fondant will be very good for a cake smash.

Butter Cream....
You want gooey and messy...Colorful too...
If you are buying the cake make sure that you dont get an "air brushed" cake. Im not a baker so Im not sure about what the dye is...all I know is....it takes forever to get the dye off of them from that.
I always suggest parents stay away from fondant for the most part unless they are using a smaller version of the official cake....

I would do buttercream. I think fondant tends to be thicker also--harder for little fingers to smash. Also not as tasty IMO.
