SPR: Have you used Merry Maids (or related company)?

We are trying to think of all our options because we will be moving in my 8th month. DH will be doing the painting in the new place and I want to clean both places. Am I a nut? I'm trying to figure out if Merry Maids would be a better bet. Has anyone used them? What cost am I looking at? Are there any other services out there? We're moving from a 2 bedroom apt, nothing big.

I never used them but we had a cleaning person come one day to do our upstairs.

I think it was $100 but the upstairs was REALLY dirty. She stayed for hours. Kitchen, fridge, bathroom, vacuum, etc...

Try the home board, I have read $50 per visit and up for cleaning people.

I used Maid Brigade after Dd was born they cleaned the house really well and did not do all the rooms and it cost over $400,
When we moved into ourhouse we used my moms cleaning girl and she did a good cleaning and it cost about $120

My cleaning girl charges me $60 a visit - she comes every week (with 2 more poeple). To do a BIG job I know it would be quite a bit more, but they do a good job and are reasonably priced...

My neighbor, and good friend, does house cleaning...She has weekly houses and I know she does this type of thing too...We're in Nesconset and she usually works around Setauket/StonyBrook/Middle Island...so I think that's around your area.

In preparation for DS we used a local company and they charged $75 per hour and were here for about 2 hours. This house was very dusty and dog hair-y. I liked that they could have stuck around and charged us more (they finished at 1:15 and didn't charge us for the full half hour). We are moving too and I think I will probably have them back at the end of the month to do a once over.

We used Merry Maids- it was a shower gift from MIL and SIL. They came to do a first cleaning that was super-thorough. They were at our house for over 5 hours (and I do not have a large house) and they did an amazing job. I think it cost about $500 for that first cleaning. Then we had 3 more cleanings, bi-weekly, which cost about $150. The team this time was different, and they didn't do as good a job as the team that did the big cleaning.

It was worth it, especially that first cleaning, but I know we would not have spent the money otherwise because it was alot. You might be better off with someone independently employed.

I used Theresas house cleaning when I first bought my house as a move-in cleaning and I thought they were HORRIBLE!! It cost about $260.

I now use someone every other week (not a big company) and they charge me $80. The first time cleaning was $120.

Personally, I wouldnt use one of those big companies - they are overpriced and do not do a great job!
