SPR ..Need tax advice re: paying Nanny off the books
Can anyone help?
My nanny is currently paid weekly, off the books. She wants to now apply for medicare?
She needs a letter verifying employment but I am worried that this will post a red flag that we are not paying taxes as her employer. Any input would be appreciated.

I would absolutey NOT write a letter verifying employment if she is paid off the books.

That's exactly what's going to happen so I definitely wouldn't do it!

I am going to preface this by saying that this is a BIG no no.
that being said, she agreed to it and benefits just as much as you do. she is not entitled to the letter.
I do suggest you make this arrangement on the up and up though. talk to an accountant to figure out your and her tax liability and work out her taxable salary.
good luck. and again...NO LETTER.

No way.
If you are changing your arrangement, you need to issue her a 1099 form, she will need to claim that money as income and you are entitled to her social security number so you can get the childcare tax deduction.
