SPR: Social Security question
I know this isn't really the right board...maybe it belongs on bereavement but it's somewhat parent related...
If a parent dies, is the suriving spouse entitled to the full amount per child on the social security statements or if that amount is reduced based on the spouse's income?

Re: SPR: Social Security question
i don't know if it's changed since then, but when my DH's mother died in the 80's, he and his two siblings received the full amount. the checks were actually made out to the children, with the surviving spouse being custodian. i should ask DH what they received, because i think the amount was based on how much she had contributed into the system, not a set amount per child.

Re: SPR: Social Security question
If you are talking about someone who died with insured status and the children are minors, they get a Survivors' Benefit and there is a family max. to look out for but the amount does not get reduced by the mom's income. Ask Tilde. I'm pretty sure she does benefit computations every day.

I sent FM but the child's benefit is not reduced by the spouse's income.
