SPR: What is better for homes with little kids...

...carpeted floors or hardwood/laminate?

Our carpeting on the main floor is old and gross. We have 2 dogs and an active toddler. Trying to decide if it would be easier to keep a laminate or wood floor clean and have it look a little nicer. TIA!

Both DH and I have allergies and find that carpeting is not the best for us. We have all wood floors with area rugs. DD is starting to get around and does fine on the area rugs.
I personally think wood/laminate floors are easier to keep clean, especially with pets.

We have wood floors in our entire house except for both DD's bedrooms. And the only reason they don't have wood floors is bc the refinishers said the floor underneath would not look good, so we recarpeted them.

They are very easy to clean and look nice almost all the time! Chat Icon

Honestly, it doesn't matter so do whatever you want. I've always had all hardwood and never had a problem yet with DS rolling around, crawling, walking, falling, etc. If I like carpet I'm sure I wouldn't have a problem with it either.

we have all wood floors with an area rug in the living and dining rooms. I prefer wood, it's easier to clean with a dog who sheds and three little ones.

I think it depends. JMO, but I'm a big fan of carpeting in bedrooms. We currently have carpeting in our dining room & living room. As soon as we get the money, I'm removing that and putting down laminate. Should add, we also have a dog who sheds and I hate having to vacumn so much. Would rather sweep. LOL.

Also, if I did get the laminate wood, I would get an area rug for the living room area (where DS hangs). He is 18 months and moving non-stop.

our whole house is hardwoods except for Chloe's playroom (it came like that). The hardwoods are great with a dog and we never had a problem with crawling, cruising or walking . I would do whatever you like best
