Spring Break getaway
Looking for something to do for a night or 2 over the break at the end of the month. Someplace that doesn't require a quarantine upon return so basically the tri state area.
It's a weird time of year, so maybe something with an indoor pool or something - or things to do in the area that you don't need warm weather for.
I had looked at Crystal Springs but the Trip Advisor reviews were down right scary -which surprised me, but maybe they are falling down due to Covid restrictions etc
Any ideas?

Spring Break getaway
My friends have been to Crystal Springs a few times and had a nice time - and they are picky.
Woodloch in the Poconos?
We stayed at the Sagamore in Lake George over the summer and they had a nice indoor pool. They also had this huge rec center that my kids enjoyed more than anything else in the entire resort which would be open now.
The Berkshires in MA are supposed to be really nice too and you can go there without quarantine.

Re: Spring Break getaway
I just got back from Crystal Springs. We had a really nice time but the place is horribly mismanaged. Staff is great, the place is spotless and following Covid rules but getting reservations for things was a pain. Also, the food there is awful and you have to go off site. Breakfast was ok but that is kind of hard to screw up. On the other hand, there is a lot to do there and in the area so it is good to bring kids. The pool area is really very nice.
We love Kalahari. We just did Great Wolf and that was fine. I felt safe there. But that's another place where the food is terrible so we had to go off site.
Rocking Horse Ranch? Pine Ridge Dude Ranch?

See that is what I read! I was really surprised too because people rave about it normally. Maybe it's a Covid thing- maybe they are short staffed, who knows? We love Kalahari too- that could be an option, but those places are nightmares on school breaks- I hate the long lines etc. I'll check into the other places, thanks!

Are they limiting the number of people allowed? I find places are a lot more pleasant with the reduced capacity limits. So even if over break it might not be crowded if only half full.

Yes - they have lower capacity limits - their prices are higher right now though, I'm not sure how high they would be over break. My neighbor went on a weekend and said it was nice (but she hadn't been during normal times). They didn't have to wait for anything.
We are going today since my kids are hybrid - will let you know how it is.

Yes report back, lol, thanks I imagine the prices are higher because they have limited capacity so they have to make up the money loss somehow.... I noticed a lot of hotels are more money than last year.

American Dream mall is great but there is no on property hotel. You would have to drive but i think the hotels are just a couple minutes up the road. There is a ton to do. You can spend a day at the water park, a day at the amusement park, ski, ice skate, shop, mini golf etc.

Yes! We did GWL over winter recess and it was 50% capacity. The place felt empty. No lines. I'm not sure if Kalahari will be doing that at the end of the month but if it's the same, that is pretty good.
As for Crystal Springs, I don't think it's a Covid thing. I think it's a management thing. The website is terrible. My mom is a TA and even she couldn't get through to make us reservations for things weeks in advance (the availability is restricted due to Covid but we couldn't even get people on the phone). They had charges on my bill that didn't belong there. They tried charging us twice for the rooms. They shut down a lot of activities early. For example, they have ice skating, axe throwing and lots of other outdoor stuff. All of that was shut down on a Saturday night. When people were complaining of a lack of availability. Why not keep it open until 11 or so?

Re: Spring Break getaway
Also, we haven't for a couple of years but we went to Woodloch one year and the kids had fun. It's not as good in the spring or fall because there aren't as many things to do but it was still good.

But its so expensive!!! I looked at day passes for my SO's son's birthday on 4/17 and it would be $600 + for 5 people and 1 kid.

We went on a weekday. I want to say it was $79 per adult and $69 per kid. It must be a lot more expensive on peak days. Maybe a weekday over the holiday week wouldn't be as bad?

That holiday week is also Passover so probably it'll be bad, lol. But in general you're 100% right that a weekday would be better
My son actually went on a school trip there last year, not the waterpark, the amusement park, and he loved it and the trip wasn't that expensive

We usually stay Sunday to Monday so I was expecting similar to less capacity but on this random March Tuesday it’s mobbed. In the waterpark there are signs but the only change is that the swim up bars are closed.
It’s more crowded than I enjoy during normal times.
And they don’t seem to enforce mask rules as 1/3 of the people in the resort have them on their chins.

I did Mystic the winter break. The Hilton and Hampton Inn have indoor pools. You can do the aquarium, Mystic Seaport Museum and downtown Mystic. There’s amazing ice cream. There’s a cute toy store and other stores along Main Street. Or, you could also do Hershey Lodge which has an awesome pool. Although Hershey Park is not open, Chocolate World, the zoo and Hershey Museum is.

That's weird that it's so crowded on a week day non holiday. I guess a lot of kids are hybrid and not in school?

Re: Spring Break getaway
Hershey is open April 2nd. We went back in October, stayed at the Hershey Lodge. The indoor pool was fun! We asked for a room right near the water park, and those did not have the musty gross smell that we had last time we were there. The park was insanely crowded. It was absolutely mind-boggling how they let that many people in. The lines were very long. They said they were at a reduced capacity but their capacity must be like millions of people

I was at Hershey last year. There is a calendar that you can see the open dates. You need to buy the tickets on line and then enter the ticket information into the website and you get a confirmation email. They just scan your tickets at the gate Iike usual. I was there the last weekend in august from sun-tues. Sunday was very crowded. Monday was completely empty.
ETA: we stayed off site. Not sure how it works if you stay at one of their hotels

Yeah they did in October also. You just buy a ticket and pick your day. If you stay at a Hershey resort you dont need to buy tickets in advance
And I have determined that the special event weekends draw the crowds. Not regular Summer because no one wants to wear a mask in 95 degree weather
