Spring bulbs sprouting early
My hyacinths and daffodils are showing their shoots. Will they bloom early? Will they die? First time this happened. It's not even time for crocus flowers!

Re: Spring bulbs sprouting early
I don't know if they will die but DH seems to think this is going to be a bad growing season this year because of all the weird weather. He thinks its going to rain a lot this summer since the ground is very dry now from not a lot of rain/snow.

Re: Spring bulbs sprouting early
Noticed just this afternoon that my neighbors have some shoots coming up. I think they have daffodils. I never paid attention to this before but I did think it was maybe a little early (from this post now I know it is).
We planted tulip bulbs for the 1st time in fall. Wonder when those will come up?
As a side note, I noticed our tree out back seems to be sprouting tiny leaf buds already Crazy weather indeed!

Re: Spring bulbs sprouting early
I forget where I read it, but it said to cover the sprouting bulbs with leaves. I think it make sense as I can't see the bulbs withstanding the cold temps that come at night but, I would google and double check for sure.

Re: Spring bulbs sprouting early
I noticed this week that our tulips and daffodils are sprouting already --- I have between an inch and 2 inches of sprouts already!
And we have these purple flowers --- I have no idea what they are called but they do come back every year and they are very small purple flowers that spread each year...they are already FLOWERING!
I am going to have to steal some leaves from a neighbor's yard...my FIL cleans ours up with a vengance --- to cover them up!

Re: Spring bulbs sprouting early
I moved some mulch around to cover the shoots. I read somewhere to do that. Hopefully it helps!

Re: Spring bulbs sprouting early
It's only a concern if they start budding. If it's just greenage, they will be OK.
If they start budding, cover them up with leaves/mulch before the cold comes back.
