Stair runner
Is it stupid to have a runner up the stairs if there is no carpeting on either side (none upstairs or down)?

Re: Stair runner
I have one going up my stairs and I have tile where it begins and carpet where it ends. I have a friend who has wood floors throughout and has a runner just for the steps and it looks fine. Not the greatest pic to see it in.... Image Attachment(s):

Re: Stair runner
Thanks! We like the hardwood, but I thought adding a runner may cut down on noise (thumping from going up & down the stairs) and be a little safer, but I didn't know if it would look funny without carpeting on either end.

Re: Stair runner
we just have a runner on the stairs. As much as I loved the bare stairs, I fell down them 3 times...that was 3 times too many for me...so we had a runner put in!

Re: Stair runner
We have hardwood floors at the top and bottom of our stairs and we were thinking of doing this too. I think it will look fine - and definitely cut down on the noise!

Re: Stair runner
We have fully carpeted stairs, but a friend has bare wood steps, and it is so slippery! Especially if you wear socks in the house! I would definitely put a runner on the steps.

DEFINITELY cuts down on the noise....we had one put in a few months ago and we have a marble entrance but carpet at the top of the stairs. It really "warms" up the house and it has been the #1 improvement we have done that I love. It will look perfect without carpeting at either end and it really does help with noise!

Re: Stair runner
Here is a pic before we moved in. We'll eventually replace it (looks a little old) but I love it, and love that it's quiet too...
