I saw that! And, I told my coworker (who is also a mommy), "that's all?"
We both agreed that sometimes we consider work to be a break
for SAH moms, dads AND grandmas

Re: Stay-at-home mom’s work worth $138,095
I saw this article and was going to post as well. I also recieved something in the mail, I think from Enfamil, with pretty much the same story. I am a SAHM and that salary sounds GREAT to me. I also give to FT working moms & dads. I don't know how you work FT jobs, come home, cook, clean, laundry, etc. Im home and sometimes find it hard to get it all done! So, "Hat's Off" to all of you too.

Am I the only person that thinks they are completely underestimating it (in terms of dollars)?

There are tons of people who really do nothing all day sitting behind their desks and make $100,000 easy. IT should be more like $500,000 and a paid lunch since we don't get that either!

I have to disagree while I think it is hard staying home, there are easy and hard days just like going to work. I am a wohm but the days I am home with my kids, some are very difficult and some are cake. As a wohm I also do the same things a sahm does but during lunch and after work. I don't get exempt from the kids activities, laundry, banking, food shopping, etc.

Re: Stay-at-home mom’s work worth $138,095
A mother who holds full-time job outside the home would earn an additional $85,939 for the work she does at home
I would love an extra $85K in my paycheck!!

WHAT??? why wouldn't it be the same $100K+? FT working moms still have to do all the stuff that the SAHMs do with the exception (and added expense) of the daytime child care.

I guess b/c technically you are doing the SAHM job part-time, like a second PT job? You aren't putting in the same hours technically...

Tell that to a wohm mom that has tons of days off with their kids. I had 5 weeks off last year alone in just vacation days!!!

Re: Stay-at-home mom’s work worth $138,095
This article made me a bit grumpy when they stated that a working mom wouldn't be paid equally to a SAHM. I have the ENTIRE freaking Mommy experience packed into my before and after work hours. I say we working moms get the whole $138 grand!

Not that $138K is something to turn your nose up at, but let's face it...SAHM's are worth WAY more. And mom's who work F/T or P/T should also receive a paycheck. Being a parent, you're on call 24/7...that's worth a lot more. No lunch breaks, no vacation plans, etc. $500,000 would be a good start.

First of all, it's make believe...so, you shouldn't be grumpy, that's just silly.
Secondly, what SUCKS the most about the article is the subtext that what SAHM's do everyday has absolutely no value at all UNLESS there is a number - even a fictional one - assigned to it.
IMO, SAHM's should be grumpy!!!
