staying fit during pregnancy
What has everyone done to stay fit and healthy during pregnancy. I am not sure what is ok and what is not.
TIA!

Re: staying fit during pregnancy
I have been doing 30 minutes of cardio since day 1.... I went from elliptical and high impact to now just walking on the treadmill and have added strengthening and stretching.
At 36 weeks, I have very few aches and pains and have remained very limber, I highly recommend it!

Re: staying fit during pregnancy
I am 23 weeks and running about 15-20 miles a week on the treadmill and doing the elliptical on my off days. Also doing 2 days of strength training about half the weight I used to do and am just starting to add 1 day of a yoga DVD and 1 day of a pilates DVD.
It's very important for me to stay strong and fit. My regimine has been approved by my doctor!

Re: staying fit during pregnancy
I'm very active... but because it was tough to get pregnant, I avoided real exercise after (switched to walking).
I'll work out again once this bundle of joy is OUT.

Re: staying fit during pregnancy
I did exactly the same workout I did pre pregnancy for the most of the first two trimesters-weight lifting, running, elliptical. Around 25 weeks it got harder to keep up so I walk as much as I can, still weight lift and do a prenatal pilates dvd.

Re: staying fit during pregnancy
I walk about 30 minutes a day 5 times a week, with commuting into NYC for work..
I do 3-4 days a week of 40 minutes of cardio (elliptical/stationary bike/walking)
Strength training once a week (on 1 of the cardio days)
Prenatal yoga once a week on dvd at home.
I am trying to stay active just because it makes me feel good physically and mentally.

Re: staying fit during pregnancy
I admit I wasn't active this time around ... I always said I would start some routine but never did. In the end, I'm glad I didn't because knowing me I would have blamed the workout on all the problems we had.. even though that would NOT have been what caused it .. but ya know.. it's only natural to find a blame. In any case, I am inspired now to start an exercise routine before my next pregnancy that I can continue throughout. I know there are MANY women on here who have stayed active throughout their pregnancies. Supposedly it helps to have an easier labor too!

Re: staying fit during pregnancy
I teach like 10 yoga classes a week; I'm not doing EACH class full out or anything like that, but I probably take 3 classes a week that are at least an hour long. I would say my daily teaching probably gives me moderate exercise as well. I also walk the dog every day. I was very fit before, so I feel great doing it--just very modified.

Re: staying fit during pregnancy
Well I worked out all the time before getting my BFP and slowed down a lot after - but that was partially due to another physical thing (I had some bones chip off my ankle bones so. . . )
I have been swimming a little bit and and doing pilates and yoga on the floor only. . JUST started doing bicycle (abour 2x a week) and water aerobics (1-2) a week . and some strength training for my ankles/legs.. hope to keep bringing stuff back as I get stronger again and am not exhasuted but it's been hard. . I actually love working out and before this alll did 4-6 hours of elliptical a week, yoga, some weights and tons of yoga
I think I'll make sure not to do as much, and keep heart rate a little lower but I feel so much better when I'm working out. .

Re: staying fit during pregnancy
When I was pregnant I walked, and walked. Every single day. It really kept me in shape, and was about all I felt I could handle everyday. Also yoga.
