Re: Stem cell research

Would say aganist it 100% but I'm very confused by it and have some ethical issues aganist it.
Well, do you have any questions about it? If you do maybe someone who knows more about it can help with the confusion.
I do respect you opinion, but I am a little confused myself. Please understand this is not an attack on you, but how can you be 100% against something if you are confused by it?

I don't think its ethical to use embryos to further science. I'm against it.

Re: Stem cell research
I don't want to open a can of worms but I feel like I have to say this much.
As a researcher I work with human cell lines (not stem cells). A lot of areas of research require the use of embryonic cells, so for example, mouse embryonic fibroblasts can be used (not stem cells either), but they have a short life span in culture and provide us with less information than human cells could.
Once a stem cell line is established it is immortal, meaning this cell line can be replenished forever. I think it's worth the sacrifice of a few embryos for the good of others. There is a very limited number of embryonic cell lines available now, and although adult stem cells have been isolated they are more limited and specialized than embryonic stem cells meaning they dont have the potential to differentiate into as many different cells as embryonic cells do.
I know it's hard for people to understand, but once these lines are established they're indefinitely available. And the potential of having access to these types of cells for researchers is immeasurable.
ETS: Wanted to add!!!! These stem cells are isolated from embryos created in vitro that are only a FEW DAYS OLD! At this stage Embryos at this stage of development they do not have a nervous system, and have not developed a heart or other tissues yet. Literally, it is a ball of cells. In my honest opinion, although they have the potential to create life if implanted in a uterus, I don't feel it's immoral to use these embryos for the development of stem cells.

Re: Stem cell research
Considering that embryos that are unused are often discarded, I feel that we should be putting them to use.
I remember over the summer watching a news report out of Johns Hopkins in Baltimore that spinal cell regeneration was caused in lab rats by using rat stem cells. It was considered a MAJOR breakthrough in the research for repairing spinal cord injuries.....

I agree 1000% my mom has an illness that, while she is stable now, could turn very bad very fast, and to think there is something out there that could potentially save her, there is no question in my mind

Re: Stem cell research
I really do not know much about this, but from what I have read there is no solid proof that embryonic stem cell research will lead to a cure for azheimers, etc. It's a lot of media hype. I don't know, I don't understand it fully. Where do these embryos come from? I wouldn't want scientific research done on one that came from me. It's sort of disturbing to think about.

But don't you need to be able to do the reseach to have solid proof
