Still not really eating regular table food at 10 mons
Is this normal? The Ped said he is a little behind with his eating, but nothing to worry about.
He just started puffs a bit b4 he turned 10 months. If I give him any table food (I'm talking something soft like steamed veggies or small pieces of chicken) he doesn't know what to do with it. He chews and chews and it seems to stay in his mouth till I try and give him broth or water.
He does ok with puffs one at a time, but will gag and throw up depending on how chunky the food is or what the texture is.
Anyone else having this issue at this age?? I hope he grows out of it soon. He is on Stage 2 babyfoods, eats any yogurts and has 4 6oz bottles. He's gaining weight and all. Just worried I'll be packing his college stuff with babyfood.
Ok... maybe I'm exaggerating a little

DD didn't really eat table food until she was a year old. Before that she ate bananas and sweet potato but that was about it.

Re: Still not really eating regular table food at 10 mons
DD is 13 months and also hardly eats any table food. She loves Cheerios/puffs and will eat fruit if it's very soft and in itty bitty pieces, but pretty much anything else she either spits out or chews until it's a dried out hunk she can't swallow. I think it's partly that she won't give anything a chance if she doesn't like the taste immediately, and partly that she hasn't mastered the idea of chewing things that don't dissolve easily.
I'm hoping she gets over it soon too!

My DS didn't start eating table food till around 12 months. He loved his jarred food. Try switching to stage 3..the food is much chunkier it might get him more used to table food.

Thanks! Is the Ped concerned at all? My Ped isn't, but said that he's a bit behind with the eating. He likes pureed fruits, but if I give him a tiny piece of it he spits it out. Well, like you said... chews and then makes a face and spits it out. He does have teeth so that's not the case

Re: Still not really eating regular table food at 10 mons
honestly talia only wants to eat cheerios. if i fed her cheerios and puffs all day long she'd be happy. she refuses anything on a spoon anymore so she wont even eat baby food, yogurt, etc anymore. i'm thinking its her teeth maybe? she wants more finger regular foods but her body cant really handle it b/c she often throws it up if its too much. and giving her real food is so scary to me!!!!

Trying the Stage 3 soup so far. The Ped actually didn't recommend it b/c pple complain children don't like the texture so they skip Stage 3 and go straight to table food.

Poor Talia
Well, you know what Mason does if he has any table food first hand Now that he has bad allergies it's worse b/c he's all phlegm. Ped said he's not sick, but bad allergies. Making it hard to feed him now

Re: Still not really eating regular table food at 10 mons
Erica- you know we are in the same boat here! Liam has been eating some puffs in the past week. But the other day I pureed some chicken (into tiny pieces) and he ate a little mixed into his stage 2 veggie but didn't eat a lot. He really isn't too interested in table food either.
My ped wasn't concerned. HE said as long as Liam is eating 3 meals per day and one of them has a meat then he is doing well. In speaking to some other friends, this does happen. I am not worried about it. I need to stp comparing because it was making me crazy.
Liam also has no teeth yet.

Re: Still not really eating regular table food at 10 mons
My DD didn't really get into table food till about 11 1/2 months. Till then she would only eat cheerios, puffs, and cheese. Everything else was baby food. She didn't choke or gag, she would just either throw the food, or reach into her mouth and remove it if she actually tried it.
One day she just made a complete turnaround and started eating anything. It was so weird. I was getting concerned because my older DS was into table food at like 9 months, and DD was so different!

Re: Still not really eating regular table food at 10 mons
So glad I just read this post. i was worried since my ds is sooo picky. He loves bananas, sweet pot. yogurt. Everything else we have to make a song and dance for. he really doesn't put anything to his mouth and last week he figured out how to feed the dog all at 9 months! I was starting to thinking he was going to be breastfeed till high school.

Well, one good thing is you don't have to deal with a big mess DD loves her table food, and she wants to feed herself, she doesn't even finish gumming/chewing food before she wants another bite. Half of the food gets in her mouth, the other half ends up on the floor. The dogs sit and wait like little opportunists

Oh hun... I hate trying to give him new foods. The Ped said to try different things, but when I do I sometimes wear it.
No teeth yet! I'm dealing with teething now. His top teeth are coming in and we've been up since 3AM watching Yo Gabba Gabba

I think our boys will be at the same lunch table in HS eating their pureed jarred babyfood.

Ava is the same way. Her main food source is the baby food. She loves cheerios, puffs, teethng biscuits and american cheese but she eats them more as snacks and not her meals.
