stomach virus at 3yo.....skipping a day or separate sickness?
So the stomach bug everyone else had this winter/spring finally hit our house Tues. The 3yo was throwing up everything, even water, that night, then was ok Wed and most of Thurs. Yesterday late afternoon the vomiting started back up. He's not keeping anything down, even water. Even 2oz of water came up this morning already. His pullup was wet this morning but his lips and skin are very dry and he keeps asking for something to drink, so I'm giving him water in 1oz increments for now. How long can I expect this to last? On a very selfish note, I'm frustrated that my kid who never gets sick is going through this the wknd we are supposed to go see my folks for Easter....can't put him in a car for four hours if he feels this yucky....poor kid.

poor baby! Please don't give him anymore water. Water makes you throw up when you are ill. We are going through this now. We've all been drinking gatorade & pedialyte to restore hydrtion after vomiting (yes even DH & I are drinking pedialyte) Same thing happened to me.. I threw up for one entire day, felt semi-ok the next day & threw up a little the following day. It's still lingering. Call your ped & maybe they'll have you bring him in for evaluation if his lips & skin are that dry. I hope your DS feels better soon.

DH and I were actually disagreeing about this....I agree that an electrolyte solution is better, but he thinks plain water is better. I just sent him to CVS to get some pedialyte; hoping DS can keep that down!
Hope everyone iin your house feels better soon, too!

thank you- here is an article about kids & the stomach bug. click
I just pulled these sentences out b/c I thought they were important.
Children older than 1 year may also have clear soups, clear sodas or juice mixed with water to help prevent dehydration. You should avoid giving your child plain water and dark sodas. Water alone does not contain enough salt and nutrients to help with dehydration. Dark sodas are typically very high in sugar and can irritate your child's stomach

Thanks, Julie! Maybe we can get together one day next week instead? My mom is the most upset - she has a ham dinner planned for tomorrow and can't see the boys again unril late May!
