Stores Opening at Midnight for Black Friday - What do you think of this?
Me, personally, I don't like it. I feel like having the stores opening at 6am is early enough.
I feel like having the stores opening that early takes away from Thanksgiving making it only a prelude to the shopping that's to occur the following day.
I do go shopping on Black Friday but I don't get to the stores before 10am. I'm usually too pooped from the day before.
What are your thoughts?

I don't care because I would never go at that time BUT I do feel very bad for the employees who work at these places. It's like they can't even enjoy their Thanksgiving because they have to go to work. I swear- nothing is sacred in this country anymore- it's always about the almighty dollar!

I HATE it!!
There is no reason on earth those employees & business owners should feel the need to leave their families, homes or beds at that hour to satisfy some ridiculous need to shop in the middle of the night.

I don't have a problem with it. If it leads to more jobs and more work hours, it's fine with me.

Re: Stores Opening at Midnight for Black Friday - What do you think of this?
I honestly don't think there is ANY need for stores to open that early on Black Friday. As it is, opening at 5am, 6am or 4am/3am, etc is WAYYYY early enough. And remember that everyone starts to line up hours before the stores open. I think it's just crazy at this point that some people feel like they have to be there at midnight to get the good deals.
I do think there must be some people who LIKE it though, since it seems to be a success, so in that sense I think it's a good thing since anything to stimulate the economy is a good thing, but I just wonder how many people go because they feel like they have to in order to get the good deals, you know?
I think going at 5am is early enough!

Re: Stores Opening at Midnight for Black Friday - What do you think of this?
I think it's awful that employees have to go into work at that hour. I remember a few years ago being in a KMart close to Christmas when they were open 24 hours. The employees were NOT happy about it.
ETA - my brother in the restaurant industry thinks the late hours are awesome. He works late and sleeps late, so he actually is someone who would love to shop at midnight.

See that's my point. Being open and having to work Thanksgiving DAY is messed up.
But to work say a 10pm to 6am shift on a Friday morning is hardly anything to go nuts over.
If I was working these stores I definitely wouldn't mind that since I would then have all day Friday to myself.

Re: Stores Opening at Midnight for Black Friday - What do you think of this?
I don't care you couldn't pay me to go shopping that early so I could care less if they are open at that hour. If someone wants to shop that much that they are up at that hour all the more power to them. We usually avoid the stores that day anyway they are a mad house and I don't think I get that much better deals than I do other days with coupons.

Re: Stores Opening at Midnight for Black Friday - What do you think of this?
I will probably go midnight shopping with my sister. I'd like to hit some of the sales. I work Black Friday anyway and can't go during the day. If I am not in a turkey coma, that is!

Re: Stores Opening at Midnight for Black Friday - What do you think of this?
My DH is working at the Nike Factory in Deer Park (Great 2nd Job!) on Black Friday.
He has to be there for 11pm on Thanksgiving night to open for midnight. He is working 11pm to 11 am. He asked to work the night hours because we have a wedding to go to at 5pm on Friday. He says he doesn't mind, but I think he will feel differently on the day of.

My thoughts are that people are not going to be shopping at those hours and stores are needlessly taking their employees away from their families so they can try to squeeze out a buck.
No family values

Yeah, but how much time are employees going to be able to spend w/ their families on tG if they have to work all night? You would be sleeping on TG and probably friday when you got home

I never shop on Black Friday, so I don't care either way. However, I love the "don't mind as long as you keep your dogs home" option
