Re: Stores Opening at Midnight for Black Friday - What do you think of this?
don't care either way since you wouldn't catch me out at that hour for any deal, not even if it's free
but I do feel bad for the employees. honestly, is this REALLY necessary? as someone who's worked in retail during many Christmases, that would drive me to quit!

Re: Stores Opening at Midnight for Black Friday - What do you think of this?
As someone who was once on the retail end of black friday, I think it's unfair to ask associates and managers to cut into their holiday so people can get some discounts.
I would be really upset if I had to cut time with my family short to prepare for an all nighter at work

My thoughts are that people are not going to be shopping at those hours and stores are needlessly taking their employees away from their families so they can try to squeeze out a buck.
No family values
I voted that I hate it. But I am the one that tears up over the PCRichard's ad every year where they talk about how they respect their employees too much to open on holidays

I hate shopping in stores... I shop on line for everything just about... or I go shopping between 10 and 2 during the week. Hate crowds!! During the holidays I stay far away from stores. CVS has the best "i really don't care but I need to get that person something" gifts... and they are cheap!

ITA! I worked in retail b4 too and balked at having to greet store customers as an obligation to my real job. Ugh!
I have family members who actually went shopping at an outlet at midnight last year. Sorry but no deal no matter how great is cutting into my sleep!

Re: Stores Opening at Midnight for Black Friday - What do you think of this?
Last year was the first year I did Black Friday. This year we're planning to also do the outlets at midnight. I know it's nuts, but I'm excited. I wish stores were open that late at night because I always seem to want to go shopping around that time. I love the holiday season when the malls are open later.

I think it's awful that employees have to go into work at that hour. I remember a few years ago being in a KMart close to Christmas when they were open 24 hours. The employees were NOT happy about it.
ETA - my brother in the restaurant industry thinks the late hours are awesome. He works late and sleeps late, so he actually is someone who would love to shop at midnight.
Oh I remember KMart when they did that 48 hour stint right before xmas. That was a hoot for the employees. I knew a few people also and they were ticked about working 12 hour shifts 3 days in a row. They were also opened on every holiday we had including Xmas but I think that changed a few years ago.
I personally don't care about what the stores do because I rather be asleep in my bed then wake up at 4AM and go shopping online as for they have the same sales.

Re: Stores Opening at Midnight for Black Friday - What do you think of this?
We're usually down at my brothers' in Leesburg, VA and the outlets did this a few years ago...
We THOUGHT...'WHAT A GREAT IDEA'
until we realized about 2378278397892738728 other people thought so too.
It was absolute MAYHEM..
I'll never do it again... I'll just stick to going out later in the afternoon.

Re: Stores Opening at Midnight for Black Friday - What do you think of this?
I don't care what time they open, I won't be there. If people are that anxious to go shopping on Black Friday, to be there at midnight, then, IMO, their mind is already on it by the time the turkey goes in the oven anyway.
I try to get at least half of my shopping done before Thanksgiving; whatever's left, I take a day, during the week and go then. The store's will be having so many sales this year because of the economy, I still feel like I'll get good deals. And if I lose out on some Black Friday deals, I'll be ok with it - I HATE shopping, and refuse to do it on that day!
ETA: I DO feel sorry for the people that have to go into work for those crazy hours. It kinda ruins their Thanksgiving, which is sad, because we really should learn to celebrate one holiday w/o worrying about the next.

I don't care because I would never go at that time BUT I do feel very bad for the employees who work at these places. It's like they can't even enjoy their Thanksgiving because they have to go to work. I swear- nothing is sacred in this country anymore- it's always about the almighty dollar!
ITA with this. So much is sacrificed to the $Bottom Line. I have to admit - I'm one of the squares who likes the fact that almost everything in my town is closed on Sunday (Bergen County, New Jersey). It is so PEACEFUL in the neighborhood and on the roads without all the shopping traffic!

Re: Stores Opening at Midnight for Black Friday - What do you think of this?
I don't go anymore because I think it's getting too ridiculous that you have to be out at 1am to get deals now. I dont get the rational.
I do all of my shopping online now.
I cannot support this early shopping in the stores both for the employees and the madness to have to bundle up at midnight to go shopping.
What next?
