Storm Doors- yay or nay?
We are replacing our door soon. We currently have a storm door and front door. I am wondering if we need a storm door- it would save some money to skip it. I know the main drawback would be not being able to keep the main door open when it's nice.
There are some houses in my neighborhood without and I think it looks fine. Other thoughts?

Re: Storm Doors- yay or nay?
We have storm doors on our side and back door, but not our front door. I personally don't like the look of them, and we have more than enough windows to open on nice days. We need it on our side door because that side of the house gets driving rain, and we had water coming in the house until we put the storm door in.

In our case it's not a need either, the second level of our house comes out above the first level and the roof slightly overhangs too, so the door is pretty safe from rain unless the wind is crazy. But that's rare. Growing up our house always had one and my current house has always had one so the idea of not having one is new! Thanks for your input!

I do like the look without one but I would never even consider it. I couldn't imagine not having my door open on a beautiful day like today.

Re: Storm Doors- yay or nay?
I understand their function, but I don't like them aesthetically. Being that the back of our home is all french doors and we open them all the time w/o screens, I don't think twice about opening our front door which doesn't have a screen door. I do however wonder if my neighbors think we weird. Afterall, how many people just keep their front door open for a cross breeze w/o a screen?
So for our new front door, I've requested a Dutch Door.

I couldn't live without one. Ours is full glass so you can't even really notice it.

The same! When we bought the house, it didnt have one, but we added it right away. Full glass (switch to screen in summer) gives us a option to keep the front door open. And I like that it closes behind you. I have two cats and two kids. I needed the storm door for their safety.

I can't even imagine doing this! Don't you get eaten alive by Mosquitos in the summer????? I feel like they get in if we hold the door open for 5 seconds

Re: Storm Doors- yay or nay?
We had one installed 2 yrs ago & it was best investment. Ours are full glass but also provides extra insulation on those brutal cold days we had this winter. Plus I like to be able to open the door without having the outside exposure of being right on our stoop when the doorbell rings I feel it adds security

I have both; the storm door is all glass. I don't know if anyone else mentioned this, but in addition to letting the light in, I like it for security. For instance, if the bell rings, I can open the door to see who it is before unlocking the storm door. I say yay to the storm door.

I have storm door for the back of the house that I like to have for fresh air and light. For the front we have a huge door with glass design. We are able to see out but you can't see in from the outside.

Re: Storm Doors- yay or nay?
I think it depends upon the style of the house. We have a front door with frosted glass insert and sidelights. If the front door has sidelights, I like the look w/o the storm door. Only one or two houses on my block have one.

Storm Doors- yay or nay?
When we first moved in, there was no front storm door. I hated that we could not open the door on nice days. My DH hated that there was no added barrier in the colder weather. We went with a full glass door so it does not affect the look of the door.

Re: Storm Doors- yay or nay?
I didn't think I would do another one but I got a full glass with black trim against a black door and you can't even see it. My dog loves me for it on a nice day because it's where she camps out. I also open my front door for the bus in the morning. If we ever run late he knows we are coming. I can't imagine leaving my door open with nothing there.

Re: Storm Doors- yay or nay?
Nay for me. We got new double doors about 3/4 of glass. Love the look. I have two sliding French doors in the back we open and I open the windows in the dining room in the front for a cross breeze. When we are home and outside the garage doors are always open. We actually hardly use our front door though. Always go through the garage. When we redid our front doors we debated on it and glad we didn't bc it would take away from the doors.

Re: Storm Doors- yay or nay?
If I had to get a second door, I wouldn't get one.
We never keep the door open to really warrant one.
and right now both pistons are broken so the door slams shut if you don't hold on to it.
when i am leaving for work my coat 9 times out of ten gets caught on the handle.
so my answer is nay.

Storm Doors- yay or nay?
I love them. I love having the door open on sunny days and when the weather is warm I love having yet another screen in my house. We have the full length glass one so it doesn't block from the "look" of the other door. I like it has an extra barrier against the cold and wind.

we have one, I like that it is an extra barrier to the cold and wind, as I am sure our door would have been destroyed esp with this past winter!

yes! I love having the front door open with light coming in. My kids love to look out and there is nothing worse than opening your front door after a huge snow (with drifts) and it all falling inwards

For the most part mosquitoes aren't really a problem. If they are, we just close the doors for a bit. I did have a bird fly into my dining room once though. Darn thing pooped on my curtains.
