strange situation...dh is working day of baptism
i have come to terms, my life is what it is.
since he runs a restaurant, he never takes off weekends.
my family is coming down for my sister's graduation, UNC Asheville, 2 hours from my house.
it is on saturday, so it seemed perfect to baptize baby on sunday. save everyone a trip of coming back.
dh asked if he should take off sat or sun, as he will not be taking both days off...
he loves asheville, will have a great time out to eat with my fam after graduation, and at this point in his life pretty much feels the catholic church is a joke...so i said take off sat and go to work straight from baptism.
it is at 2:00 on sunday. should we go out and celebrate wtihout him that night...or do i try to include him and go out for brunch before it...
tia!

Re: strange situation...dh is working day of baptism
Hmmm, I know the feeling since I had a birthday party at 9am to accommodate a schedule
Anyway, I'd ask him, if he is cool with it (and you are too) then don't bother trying to do brunch with him, but if he wants to be there, then do that.
That's A LOT in two days though

Re: strange situation...dh is working day of baptism
that's a tough situation.
i could never have DD's baptism with my husband not there. so i personally would have a brunch with him there. he's the dad and should celebrate with his child regardless of how he feels about the church.
everyone is different, but if it were me, DH would NOT be going to my sister's graduation. i would have him take off sunday for his child.

Re: strange situation...dh is working day of baptism
kate that is funny..these crazy schedules.
thanks-he would have taken off sun if i had pushed it, but i don't think he needs to be around for the full 24 hours of the day.
saturday i would have to drive to the mountains 2 hours each way and have a fun day without him.
for the baptism, it is really just an hour in a church.
i would like to do brunch to include him...but seems like a big pita to be staring at the clock, making sure we have enough time to make it to church.

I would just celebrate without him afterwards as long as he is okay with that!n This way you can relax beforehand and take lots of getting ready pictures, including DH!
Just wanted to say I know how you feel, DH will probably never be able to celebrate any of the baby's birthdays since his job is seasonal and of course I am due right in the middle of the summer LOL

yeah, the majority of weddings attended in my life have been without him. he even turned down being a groomsman, he said he could get to wedding at 10 ish...but no earlier.
i guess it is better to have a workaholic then one that doesn't want to work.
i am going to try for a brunch...there is a place across from church. if he says don't worry about it, then i won't.

that would be ideal right?
but he would never want to see us there in a million years.
when i go in with kids to drop off his dinner once a week, we are a huge distraction to the entire place.
in 3 years, i have eaten there less then 10 times.
since he will be getting there late because of church, he won't be around us anyway, just busy at work.
but good outside the box thinking, makes perfect sense to me!

If he can be at the church, that would be enough for me. I completely understand the lifestyle and the sacrifices that come with it. If brunch is going to be more stress than it's worth, then I'd forget it.

Re: strange situation...dh is working day of baptism
If it makes you feel better, I remember talking with my mom about baptisms many years ago and back in the day that I was baptized, none of the parents went to the church. Only the godparents went. My own godfather confirmed this the day of my son's baptism.
To answer the question, though, I think I would rather celebrate with him, but not if brunch before would be too crazy to do.

Yup. This is true.
And when my uncle was baptized, one of my great uncles was the Monsignor and told my Grandmother that he baptized him "Ignatious" and not "William" and my Grandmother had a cow
(It wasn't true)
