Stressed about work & ttc for #2
My job has been an absolute roller coaster this last year with the fear of layoffs and possibly going under.
Fast forward to last month, when they called me in and basically said that they are trying their best to keep the company going and they are going to promote me to manage my whole department.
Everything rides on a few deals that upper management has been negotiating. These negotiations have been going on for 2 months and I don't know for sure when there will be a decision.
Best case scenario, if the company was able to stay afloat and all the "deals" pan out, it would be an unreal opportunity for me to advance my career, possibly get an executive title, and make significantly more money.
Worst case scenario, the "deals" fall through and the company goes under in the next 6 months to a year and I am unemployed.
So, the rest of my career hinges on these deals going through.
I was originally planning on ttc last month when they decided to "promote" me ( i use parenthesis bc obviously if the company goes under, the promotion is meaningless)
But I feel like it is unfair to them IF the company does well and I am expected to manage if I get PG and go out on maternity leave right away. We are a small company and I would basically be indispensible.
Would you wait until your future workwise was more certain or just ttc as planned?
I just don't know what to do with the way the economy is, but I'm old enough that I can't wait forever.

Would you be ok waiting 6 months and seeing where things are at? That way you would know if the copmany got the deals and you wouldn't be bailing right away? plus, how long would you be out on maternity leave? If you're just taking 6-8 weeks it's really not that bad. I mean you're going to TTC one way or another, you can't let fear of letting down your job get in the way. Hope it all works out for you

One thing I know...tomorrow is never promised. Personally...I would sit down with your DH and talk about the what ifs...
What if you get this promotion..do you want to hold off ttc to pursue that?
What if you get laid off...do you want to ttc or hold off for financial reasons?
At the end of the day...no one is indispensible..and please know that I mean that respectfully. What it comes down to is what you want...and whatever that is will be worth your full effort.
Good luck!!!!

I would take 3-4 months maternity leave. I guess my fear is if I wait 6 months and things start getting really high pressured at my job and I commit to something workwise and then leave them hanging after getting such a great opportunity.

It was easier knowing that the company was going under. We planned on ttc right away so that if there were only 6 months to a year left, and we were blessed enough to get PG right away I would basically be laid off towards the end of my pg and then start looking again after #2.
I only mean indispensible in that there are 35 people left in the company and 6 in my department. It is hard to cover someone when the company is that small. And I know that they would make do. I think it is more of the guilt of being given this opportunity to help rebuild this company and then having to leave them in a lurch.
My gut says to continue with my personal life plans because it will never be the "right time".

if you look at related topics it looks like you asked a similar question about a year ago , so my answer is TTC, don't worry about work. You have been concerned about the company going under for a while , so I woulnd' t put ttc on hold

I hope that your company knows how fortunate they are to have such a loyal and dedicated employee. You are stand up in my book by feeling such a sense of responsibility for your position. I wish you all the best...this is by no means an easy position to be in nor an easy decision to make but you seem to have a real good head on your shoulders and I sense that you will make the right decision.

Thanks. You are right. I've been basically putting this off for a year hoping for a concrete answer at work and it's just been a constant back and forth with where the company is going. I can't continue to do this and keep putting my life on hold.
