stuck between a rock and a hard place w CIO...tips needed from BTDT moms
so my little one is a week shy of 7 months. I've been delaying sleep training with her til 6 months. 6 months hit and she got a cold, so until she got the ok from the ped i did nothing. she got the okay a few days ago but now is teething hardcore. ugh i can't catch a break!
anyways, this teething business is messing up our bedtime routine big time. i used to be able to put her down totally asleep after her bedtime bottle, but for the last three days she wakes up after she's done and doesn't want to sleep. last night and tonight i decided to try "drowsy but awake" and she fights sleeping big time. she's starting to become mobile now so she gets on all fours and holds onto the crib rails to pull herself up but doesn't have the arm strength to go up all the way.
yesterday i stood close by to listen to her crying herself to sleep when i heard "THE" cry. the "i hurt myself" cry. i ran into the nursery to find her face smashed against the rails. she was trying to pull herself up and failed. i brought her downstairs to calm her down and noticed she nearly busted her lip open. she's got a bruise there now. i felt awful.
today the same thing, she wouldn't go down so i tried again. again she cried "THE" cry. i ran to see her and her face was smashed against her headboard.
what the hell do i do?! i can't do the time checks on her cause it'll only make her more upset. if i do CIO i have to do the full on CIO, but her hurting herself is crossing the line. i'm so upset, what should i do?

have her naps changed at all? Is she fighting naps? I don't know if you still do 3 naps, but if you do... it might be time to transition to 2.

i wanna say she went down to 2 naps about a month ago, maybe more? i remember noticing i couldn't get her to nap 3 times in a day anymore. naptime is a breeze, i can get her to nap in less than 10 minutes usually.

does she self soothe herself to sleep or do you rock her to sleep?
how much time is she awake between her last nap and bedtime?

nope, no self soothing at all. she falls asleep nursing for naptime and at her bottle for bedtime.
usually she's up at least 2.5 hrs from her last nap to bedtime.

Have you dropped the crib yet??? It may be harder for her to pull herself up with the crib dropped.....
I'm not sure what to do about this whole pulling up and face smashing bit... Hmmm Let me think about it.
Do you have a strict bedtime routine? How about introducing a lovey? Alexa really likes her lovey now, she holds on to it and sleeps with it. It was the only thing I could get her to use to self soothe since she won't take a paci.
We'll have to talk more and brain storm on THursday......

yeap...dropped the crib on monday cause she started pulling herself up and i was afraid she'd fall out...bedtime routine is pretty strict...bath, lotion, pjs, bottle. the time varies, but it is usually between 7 and 8, no later than that. allison hugs a teddy bear to fall asleep while drinking her bottle, but the bear doesn't go into the crib w her. not sure it would make a difference to not make her want to grab the rails.
i hope there's a solution somewhere :(

DS and your DD are the same age, and I'm having the same problems. DS just learned how to fully stand up now, and it makes it soo much harder to put to bed. DS hasn't been shown that he has gotten hurt, but has smacked his head, and will start wailing.
I would try a lovey, or does she take a paci? These are the only things to help DS. We had to take out his mobile because he was trying to take it down, but his aquarium is a god send, loves that thing.
Do you also have bumpers in there? I know that if we didn't have them in there, DS probably would hurt himself more, but they luckily break the fall most of the time.
