Student Suing After Being Awakened by Teacher

DANBURY, Conn. — Danbury officials have been notified they are being sued by a student who was awakened in class by a teacher who made a loud noise.
Documents filed with the Town Clerk, a prelude to a lawsuit, claim that a sleeping student suffered hearing damage when his teacher woke him up by slamming her hand down on the boy's desk. in December.
Attorney Alan Barry says 15-year-old Vinicios Robacher suffered pain and "very severe injuries to his left eardrum" when teacher Melissa Nadeau abruptly slammed the palm of her hand on his desk on Dec. 4.
A city official says the matter has been referred to Danbury's insurance carrier.

Disgusting.
I think he should be suspended for sleeping in class.

Good grief! I suppose the desk company should be included in the lawsuit - if the desktop had some sort of muffling device the injury wouldn't be as severe.

Ridiculous. He should have been asked to leave class or have gotten detention for sleeping in class.
Hope the judge throws this one right out.

if he was my son, he'd be suing his mother for the shoe lodged in his asss.
can you imagine allowing your child to be so detached from his own culpability to go so far as to pull a stunt like this?
the city of Danbury should slap the parents upside the ear too!

Can these be grounds for taking someone's child away. Not teaching them ANY responsibility for their own actions??
I think the parents of that kid should be smacked. Let them pay the teacher's salary for the year and apologive for raising a kid for being so disrespectful in class.

one of my coworkers got an umbrella plan to cover any problems in the classroom after someone sued an individual teach about an IEP Plan. I think it's crazy that teachers are going to need "malpractice" insurance!
