I do the pan with butter - that's how I like it -- and, I'm usually the one eating it since he wants no part of grilled cheese sandwiches ever! Go figure! He doesn't know what he's missing!
ETA: I also have a sandwich maker - I'll throw it in there sometimes also.

I do it on the rack in the oven. I don't have a toaster oven, otherwise I'd probably do it in that.

Since I don't cook, I'll tell you the easiest way.
Get bread, put cheese on top of one side, put that piece & another slice of bread in the toaster oven.
Then put them together when it's done.
The last time I did it, I used butter in a pan & followed these insturctions:
How to Make Grilled Cheese
DH mocked me the entire time for cooking with a laptop in the kitchen but they were goooood.

A pan...and I coat the bread with mayo on both sides. Sometimes I use butter but I prefer the mayo taste. So good!

This is exactly how I do it. I don't like to cook with butter and all that extra fat. Drives my husband nuts I won't put butter in the pan before making eggs or anything.
The George Foreman sounds like a good idea though, Jola. I'll have to try that too.
