Stupid question about 6wk old and "schedule"?
DD will be 6 weeks this weekend
She eats about every 4hrs
Before we never really made a schedule for her and gave her VERY light baths, like with a wet washcloth or sponge, not much else
and we let her nap (which seemed like all the time) during the day
Now she's up a bit more
So we were thinking around 7:30 she gets a bath (every other day for now), then her feeding, then we put her in the crib with music and the lights off so she gets used to being "put down to sleep for the night"
of course she'll have a midnight feed and usually a 4am feed, then 8am she's up for the day
so during the day, should I not put her in the crib at all for naps? But instead either her swing, pack'n'play, blanket, my lap etc?
Does this sound like an okay "schedule"?

Just curious why you wouldn't put her down to nap in her crib?
ETA: 6 weeks is still a little young to have a schedule. You can start a "routine" which is what we did around 6 weeks.

Re: Stupid question about 6wk old and "schedule"?
sounds good-never bad to think about a schedule but it will be hard to cement it until she's about 3 months or so. i am just wondering why you wouldn't put her in the crib for naps too? just a question-does she not nap/sleep in her crib now? my DS is 5 wks and naps in his crib and also sleeps at night in the crib. i didn't want to start using the bouncy, swing, etc for sleeping-but thats just me. either way, it sounds like you are on your way to a good schedule!

I guess I mean routine then, that's why I was putting schedule in quotes cause I know its not really a schedule at 6wks old
The crib thing I guess I was asking about because I wasn't sure if I was messing up her getting confused with day and night....
or should I not worry about that? And I guess sometimes I feel guilty when she's in the crib and I can't see her...but I guess I should get over that
I just ordered a sling so at least when she's awake she can be with me if I have to do stuff in the house

Re: Stupid question about 6wk old and "schedule"?
We wanted DD to know that the crib is for sleeping, so she went down for all her naps and bedtime in her crib starting at 3 weeks old.
Sounds like you are on the right track though!

same here-don't worry, she'll associate the crib with sleep whether it's day or night! it might not happen right away but it will if you keep trying.

Re: Stupid question about 6wk old and "schedule"?
I tried to keep DS on a schedule/routine at 6 weeks b/c I had to go back to work. He ate every 4 1/2 hours from 6:30AM to 12:oo AM - then he slept from 12-6:30.
I think if the bath wakes DC up, give a bath before the feeding or when she wakes up.
I think its good to have DC sleep in the crib.
If you want, at 8PM (or for night) start a routine of going into DC's room, turn on mobile/cd player, change diaper, give a bottle, then place into crib.
Keep the lights low. Give yourself enough time so DC will be just about to close eyes when the bottle is finished.
"They" say its best to put "them" to sleep when they are about to fall asleep so they get used to going to sleep in their beds. Not sure who "they" are but...

this is just what i was going to say
DS was sleeping in our room in the bassinet until 5 weeks. right before we moved him to the crib i started napping him in the crib so that i knew he would be okay, and he was. if your baby sleeps in the crib at night, she will be fine there for naps during the day.
at around 6 weeks i also started noticing DS giving us "sleepy cues" like yawning and rubbing his eyes. that was such a huge help because i really started seeing more of a pattern with his sleep/wake/eat/sleep cycle.
good luck, it sounds like you are doing great already!
