Stupid question but can babies get strep throat? UPDATED
I'm going to the doctor later on because i think i may have strep throat.
My son is 4 1/2 months old. What is the possibility that he might get it? Pretty good huh?

Yes they can. It's not common but it can happen. Even though the Dr. said it was unlikely DD had strep once as an infant so I'm glad we did the test.

So should i bring my son to the doctor with me and have him tested just in case? The regular doctor can test him right (dumb question i realize)?

Well with all the sleeping problems we've been having with Jacen and us not getting sleep either... it was bound to happen.

My DH had strep in Sept, DD was 3 months old. The night before he had a fever he was holding her and kissing her. I was paranoid about her getting it. Luckily she didn't. The dr. said its very unlikely because their tonsils aren't developed and that's usually where it "breeds".

Well, my DS has it now..he is a lot older...15 months...but i was told that kids his age..NEVER get strep..that usually they are at least two...so you never know!! I dont even know how he got it!!

We had two cases where DD was exposed to strep - and once she had roseola but before the rash a bad sore throat so they cultured her just in case - but my ped said was very very rare for kids under 2 or 3 to get strep - it could happen but it is very very rare - not sure about a 4.5 month old - since I think it breed in the tonsils and I'm not sure they are developed enough at that age.

It's pretty rare for children under 2 to get strep (though not impossible). I've had Strep and DD never caught it from me.

how did you know they had it? Were any of them babies?
At our family doctor I asked her to check them as well. They all came back positive.
My youngest was 7 months then. None of the kids showed any signs of having it, they all seemed normal.

Well i have it and it looks like Jacen might have it too!!! 
He was up every hour to hour and a half last night. He's all congested, has been coughing a lot and his voice sounds all scratchy.
We're taking him at 10:30 to the ped.

How did you know he had it?
We didn't know she had strep but I knew there was something wrong and there was no ear infection and my DH is prone to strep so I asked him to test.
