Stupid question re: what to bring to the hospital

So, at my recent appt on Friday, I had to sign some paperwork that I was told to bring with me when I go into labor. I was told that I should bring it in the diaper bag so I don't forget it.

... am I supposed to bring a diaper bag with me to the hospital?

I'm obviously bringing a hospital bag but I figured I would put some baby things in it and wouldn't be bringing a diaper bag.

I'm not planning on bringing a diaper bag. We live across the street from the hospital so our trip home will be quick. But I can't imagine the need for one. It's not like you are going to stop on the way home to change a diaper or feed the baby. I'm with you, I don't see the need, maybe I'm missing something too?

Re: Stupid question re: what to bring to the hospital

i brought 3 bags total to the hospital. 1 came in with me right away, 2 stayed in the car until after I delivered.

1 - small tote. I brought this one into labor and delivery. Contained camera, phone charger, registration paperwork, ID, insurance card, hard candy, snacks for DH, etc.

2 - duffel bag. (left in car until I was moved to a post-partum room. DH went and got it.) All my clothes, toiletries, laptop/charger.

3 - diaper bag. (also left in car until I was moved to post-partum room). Contained take home outfit for DS, hat to wear in the nursery, a special toy and blanket for his bassinet.

Thank you for this! a) I didn't think of the separate tote, that's a great idea. b) We won't be bringing any toy or blanket for the bassinet, so I'm thinking for US, we don't need the diaper bag - but I can see why someone else would bring one, so thank you!

Re: Stupid question re: what to bring to the hospital

Definitely no reason to bring a diaper bag. Just your stuff and DH's stuff if he's staying over with you. Don't forget a blanket for him if it's cold in your hospital. Someone gave us that tip the day I went into labor which was great because it really was very cold (of course, it was January). I had one small duffel and a small rolling suitcase. I also brought a few extra bags with me to take stuff home (like reusable grocery bags that expanded that I had stuffed in my regular bags). Plus one bag for laundry. I really didn't wear anything but the hospital gown the two days I was there, though. I ended up wearing PJs to come home in. Chat Icon

Not bringing my diaper bag. Bringing bag for labor, rolling suitcase for post partum room and DH has a duffel bag for his clothes (he is staying at the hospital the entire time). Oh also packed a tote bag in the suitcase to bring home supplies from the hospital.

yes - an empty diaper bag for all the freebies! The only thing you need for baby is the coming home outfit.
