Subchorionic hematoma
Has anybody had one? I had my first u/s today and everything looked great except for a subchorionic hematoma. It wasn't huge, but I will have to go for u/s every two weeks now. They said that it will most likely resolve on it's own - has this happened to anybody? Thanks!

Re: Subchorionic hematoma
I had one, and was told it was very small...They did tell me I might have some spotting from it and not to be alarmed if I did- Your body will either re-absorb it or it will release it (hence the spotting)...I went on to spot on and off from week 9-11 and when I went for my 12 week sono, they said it was gone ...Apparently it is fairly common...

Re: Subchorionic hematoma
Thanks! I know it's pretty common and for once, I'm not really worried about it. I'm just happy to see a heart beat!

Re: Subchorionic hematoma
I did. I bled bright red for almost 5 weeks. Scariest 5 weeks of my life . It did eventually reabsorb (ad some of it did pass which led to clots) and I am now about 32 weeks. Baby has been very healthy all along and was never affected.

I had one too that we saw at 5 1/2 weeks. I never had any spotting, so it must have reabsorbed.

Re: Subchorionic hematoma
Like FelandJon, I had A LOT bright red bleeding and clots from my subchorionic hematoma - it was SO SCARY the first time I saw it and actually had to go to the Emergency Room because of course it happened during the weekend. It happened 3 1/2 weeks ago and although I don't have bright red blood anymore, I'm still spotting (brown). My doctor was VERY reassuring and said that in his 24 years of practice, he has never seen this cause any harm to the mom or baby or miscarriage or anything like that. It still wasn't pleasant, but at least I felt a bit calmer after he said that.
Anyway, my point is that if you happen to have bright red bleeding from it, try not to be alarmed (I know, easier said than done!). But of course, you should call the doctor just to be safe!
Hope this helps!

Re: Subchorionic hematoma
I'm not going to sugar coat this, no matter how much we or the doctors reassure you, if you bleed, your heart will drop. Please print this thread out to remind yourself that it is NORMAL and a huge possibility that it may happen. You might be lucky and not bleed at all.

I agree... This just happened in the middle of the night Tuesday. I woke up to go to the bathroom and (TMI alert) and my underware was soaked with bright red blood. The bleeding didn't last long, but I freaked out. This was the same day as my ultrascreen and in the morning the baby was looking great. I did go to the dr. yesterday, he checked to make sure my cervix was closed and listened to the baby's heartbeat with the doppler. He told me that it was possible the pressure from the sono probe popped a blood vessel. I had no bleeding yesterday, but have some dark brown spotting today.

Re: Subchorionic hematoma
Thanks everybody! I appreciate all the replies. I did have spotting last week, but it's kinda a relief to know what caused the bright red blood. I'm sure I'll be fine, especially now that I will get monitored more. Thank you for all the info! I appreciate it

Re: Subchorionic hematoma
i had and have a couple of them. Did they mention to you that depending on where it is, it might actually make its way out?
When i was about 14 weeks, i passed a clot, a big clot, the size of a hockey puck i would say. Scared the SH*T out of me, called DH and my parents, was convinced i miscarried the twins. Up until that day, i didn't have any spotting issues, bled that day and that was it.
Turns out it was just a clot, i have 2 more that haven't yet dissipated, but my doctor and the ER staff have told me its normal, absolutely nothing to worry about it, no harm to the baby.
