Check out My Subscription Addiction. They review nearly every sub box in existence. DD gets the Book Drop which she likes a lot. She is 8 and a big reader. There are lots of possibilities.

We get magic school bus science experiments that my girls love doing. At 7 I supervise but at 9 would probably be able to do more independently.
