Suburban Moms - are you getting a Baby Bjorn or other infant carrier?
I was under the impression that these things were for city moms who planned to walk around the city with babies on their backs.
Do you actually use infant carriers in the house in the suburbs?

Um, I think you're permitted to LEAVE the house if you live in the 'burbs J/k - I know what you mean.
I would say it's probably 'more' for an 'active' lifestyle .........in the city it just makes thigs easy b/c your hands are free and you don't have to lug a stroller up/down stairs, on the subway etc - I would think in the 'burbs if you're doing a lot of stuff w/ baby and you don't want to deal w/ the stroller, it'd be the same thing -

If you have a baby who wants to be held all of the time and you actually want to get things done around the house, a carrier would be very useful. You may also use the carrier while going shopping. For example, if you want to go grocery shopping with a baby who can't sit up yet, it may be easier to use a carrier since the infant carseat can take up all of the space in the shopping cart.

I am getting a pouch sling. From all teh research I have done those first 6-8 weeks are the hardest and a lot of babies don't want to be put down. So, knowing this in advance I am planning on "wearing" my baby as much as possible and allow me to do other things.
I am getting a "pouch" sling... the cool thing is that you can also breastfeed the baby hands free in the sling if you are BFing and allows you to still go about your day. My midwife said this is a "godsend" during early growth spurts when they are cluster feeding!
Here is where I am ordering mine from

i have a sling and a baby bjorn, DS loves both - it helps just to carry him around the house and be able to do things because it frees up your hands.

I have one and used it for both boys, especially #2. It's nice to get out for walks and sometimes it's kinds nice to carry baby in a carrier. Also, sometimes around the house while you are doing stuff or if you are going somewhere outdoors. I thinks it's worth having just in case. Dad's usually like these.

haha I do plan on leaving the house. However, I don't think I will be taking the baby with me unless DH or family member or friend is with me. And if I am moving, I definitely don't plan to carry the baby - I will be pushing him in a stroller or driving him in a car.

Believe me- many babies (mine included) want NOTHING to do with being in the stroller/carseat. In fact I just got back from walking at the mall and wore Eliza in a Bjorn the entire time because she'd scream when I put her in her stroller.
I barely used it for #1 and contemplated selling it. THANK GOD I didn't as I've used it every day since my second was born.

Re: Suburban Moms - are you getting a Baby Bjorn or other infant carrier?
I wasn't going to but got a few recommendations to pick one up. Like the PP said; if your baby needs to be helod constantly it frees up your hands at least. I don't really plan on using it outside of the house ever..unless I was at one of DH's games possibly. FYI:Marshalls always has a few slings in stock. I got a $50 Amy Coe sling( not a hard carrier...just a fabric sling with a pattern) for $19.99...They also sell the shopping cart seat covers for cheaper!...JJust figured I'd share

Re: Suburban Moms - are you getting a Baby Bjorn or other infant carrier?
I am registering for one bc my parents live in maine & I will be doing a lot of travelling by plane alone. I would rather have the baby in this in the airport & also since we do a lot of nature stuff in Maine, it will come in handy

I have one from DD & I loved it. It was really helpful for times when she didn't want to be put down, but I needed my hands for things. Plus, there were some places that were just a PITA to push a stroller around.

All of the above.
I remember when my first nephew/Godson was born, I was at my sister's helping almost every day and my arms were killing me from holding him all the time (when you're not used to that). I can only imagine what it's giong to be like when I'm the mommy! So I think a sling will definitely help.

DH and I got a Baby Bjorn, which DH will probably be using more often. I think I want to get a sling for myself.
