Subway sandwich

Ladies, can someone talk me down from my crazy nerves at the moment?

So, DH had half of a Subway sandwich in the fridge today....

I microwaved it for over a minute..It was steaming, popping, etc.

I just HAD to eat it. It was calling to me!!

But now I am all kinds of nervous. It's the first time I've eaten a cold cut since getting pregnant. Should I be worried about lysteria??

This PG I go to to Subway pretty often because it fills me up AND it tastes good!

There was an outbreak of listeriosis in NC 2 years ago. 2 women lost their babies. If I remember correctly the cause was not from cold cuts, but from eating soft cheeses. It is a shame we have to worry about our food supply in this country. But, I don't follow the 'rules' myself. I eat cold cuts(unheated), sushi and will take a sip of beer if I feel like it. But I do know that things can happen, I am just willing to make my own decisions about things.

Re: Subway sandwich

Really, ladies, THANK YOU! I loved every minute of eating the sandwich, and kinda knew I'd be ok.

But it is sooooo nice to hear I'm not the only one succumbing to the joys of cold cuts!

the one thing I do NOT eat (pre or during pregnancy) is soft cheeses Chat Icon Chat Icon

still, the coldcuts and sushi thing irritates me. I wont eat coldcuts that are more than a few days old (ever). And I would only eat sushi from a reputible place (ever). People just need to be aware of where they are eating and pay attention to their food. The article that LB posted the other day about sushi makes this so clear ... chances of food poisoning from chicken are 1 in 25,000. The chances of food poisioning from Sushi (not shellfish) are 1 in 3,200,000! Chat Icon (or maybe 2.1 million? same thing really)

Again, EVERYTHING in moderation! Enjoy your pregnancy, dont let food stress you out! There is enough stress already!

I eat soft cheese regularly, what I don't eat is unpasturised cheeses or veiny cheeses. What do you consider soft cheese?

OMG i wannnnnt subway. i cannnnot stand the thought of heating cold cuts (for myself).

i think the chances of getting sick from cold cuts are reallllllly slim (even if not microwaved).

so as long as they are fresh and have been kept properly im pretty sure its fine.

Re: Subway sandwich

I thought I heard that Subway (and most fast food sandwhich places) have to heat up all their coldcuts and than immediately refridgerate them so that it kills any chance of listeria. So, supposedly subway is safe.

Re: Subway sandwich

My docs have no problem with my eating cold cuts. The only thing they said was that if I go to a BBQ and a hero has been sitting out in the sun all day - skip it.

I eat Subway and Quiznos all the time. I am 37 weeks and fine.

People make waaaay too much out of this sort of thing.

My Dr said it is fine to have a coldcut samdwich or two a week. He was more concerned about the amount of sodium in them. Lean meats are best turkey n chicken. I eat a sandwich a week and enjoy every bite of it Chat Icon
