It was for anyone scoring a 97 on the exam.
Both DH and I are in it! I don't know if I could pass the physical if I got called, but DH definitely could!!!!!!!

Re: Suffolk Cty PD Lottery Tomorrow
If you think you will be called soon start running now..and doing pushups and situps...so that you can build up to what you have to do as listed below...if you don't pass the first time they offer 1 re-do about a month later. You'd be surprised how many fail this part...women with pushups, men with sit-ups.
GOOD LUCK!!!!!!!!
Females:
20-29: 32 situps - 15 pushups - run 1.5 miles in 15:05 30-39 25 situps - 11 pushups - run 1.5 miles in 15:56 40-49 20 situps - 09 pushups - run 1.5 miles in 17:11

There was a written test (I think the last one was in 2007) and now that they want to have a new class in the Academy they pull the highest scores off the test. So many people scored 97% or higher they are having a lottery to cull down the list. Once selected in the lottery they have have to go through a few more steps (physical, psychological, background check) before they are accepted into the Academy. It's a long process.

Re: Suffolk Cty PD Lottery Tomorrow
Okay, I know I sound stupid, but if so many people scored a 97 or above, why not just take the people who got a 99 or 100 and forget the whole lottery thing?

You had to take the test... I think it was given in 2006. I think they put in a small class based on the top scorers, now they are doing a lottery for everyone that scored a 97 or higher. I think there are 600 people in the lottery. No idea how many people they are going to pull in the lottery.

I guess there weren't enough to just use the people who were 98% and up, and going to 97% is too many. I think they are like the top 2,000 people out of the over 20,000 who took it.

He would've gotten a letter. DH and I both received letters. I think it was everyone with a 97 and up, so I am sure your DH is in it. Good luck to him! There is a website that you can go to tomorrow to check the results of the lottery. I have it at home and can post it later if you want!

So the website is just the regular suffolk county civil service website:
http://www.suffolkcountyny.gov/departments/civilservice.aspx
I think they also said the lottery would be broadcast on the radio, but I didn't write down the station.
Good luck to your DH!

Re: Suffolk Cty PD Lottery Tomorrow
Ok, I just called....everyone that is above the 97.5 already are going to get letters to be interviewed.
Anyone with 97.5 or a 97 will be put in a drawing today.
She said that for every 7 people interviewed, only 1 makes it to the next level.

Re: Suffolk Cty PD Lottery Tomorrow
Some info I figured I'd share...
There are police departments that will hire you as a seasonal officer, meaning you work the summer season April-Sept, or work a few days a week. They will sponsor you thru the Academy (you do NOT get paid for your time there like a regular class, but you graduate with the same police certificate) You go a few nights a week and on Saturdays 8-4, and you do not have to be a resident of the area.
Some departments i know that do this are: Ocean Beach Southold Southampton Town Southampton Village Quogue Village Riverhead
Good luck to everyone...the Suffolk Academy has a great staff that will kick your butt into shape!
