Suffolk people, which company for home owner's insurance?
We currently use Met Life and pay about $900 a year. I called for our new house and was told by 2 companies that they no longer give new policies in Suffolk. Another told me since I live in Suffolk that I need steel storm shutters. A fourth qouted me at $1700 .
What's the deal? Who do you use? How much?

Re: Suffolk people, which company for home owner's insurance?
I just got a policy 2700 sqft home 4 beds 3 baths $1400 from first utica, it also includes a rider form my e-ring and the hurrican/wind damage is 2%. all the compaines i got quotes from were 5%. deductible is 1,000
price really depends on size, extra coverage, bedrooms and deductible though.

We had a lot of trouble finding a place as well....not only b/c of Suffolk but also b/c of our underground oil tank.
We use Interboro (through my insurance agent) and pay appx $1500

Re: Suffolk people, which company for home owner's insurance?
Liberty, dont remember the cost...as we did alot of insurance changes when we switched. BUt I think our old policy was about 1400. Oh and we dont have storm shutters.
When I was looking I was told that some Liberty and StateFarm offices are no longer issuing polies where as other offices still are, so you can check different offices.
Also check Amica, I found their $$ to be fair as well

Re: Suffolk people, which company for home owner's insurance?
I have Liberty Mutual and I only pay like $550 with a $5000 deductable. My house is small right now though so it's cheap. Once the dormer is done i'll have over 2400 square feet and it will probably be closer to $1000.

They are the best, my parents have them, my grandparents, aunts, uncles. They were also voted #1 in consumer reports. I think I pay about 900 a year.

Re: Suffolk people, which company for home owner's insurance?
It should go up anywhere from $100 to $200 for inflation purposes
