suggestions for this area of my house...

we have this area in my home that is off the kitchen but also open to the living room and soon to be dining room. We are not quite sure what to do with it.

I was thinking of geting a nice square wood kitchen table and 4 chairs. But im not sure if that would look strange in that spot, considering that next to it is the dining area that will eventually have a dinning room table in it

anyone have suggestions of what would work in this spot?

this is a picture of the area looking from the sunroom - soon to be dining room you can see that across from that BLANK area is our kitchen which it is completely open to.

I think a tall bar type of thing would work the best. something that can but up against the wall, maybe semi-circlular or something. i'll try to find something online.

thats a nice piece. im thinking though that an island will not work because of how far away it would be from the kitchen, i think it would look oddly placed

I think a cute /small wooden desk and chair under the window would look good. It has a low profile and isn't as wide as a table + chairs. It could also be a place to put the mail and other little items (office supplies, batteries...)

Re: suggestions for this area of my house...

since you don't drink, I'm not gonna post the links...

wannabemom's idea is great... a low profile desk or if that's not substantial enough, how about a cute secretary desk next to the window? You can use it to store kitchen linens or paper goods - you don't have to use it as a "desk" per se.

Here are some from Home Decorators

eta: If you went with a small desk and chair under the window, you could add a nice tall plant next to it for filler too.

Re: suggestions for this area of my house...

I would put one of those tall kitchen tables. Even though it is right off your dining room, I still would.

In my experience, people always congregate in the kitchen area (where the food is) when we have parties, and you can never have too much seating!!!

These are both from JCPenney... I think I like the round better for your space

I like the idea of a tall two seater table. Nothing too big. I bet you would get a ton of use out of it.

i really don't think you need anything but what about a console tale or bookcase? can you post more pics of the LR. you might be able to move some pieces to optimize the space. not sure how big the couch is but can you move and place on an angle where the chair is now and add a sofa table or low bookcase behind?

You could always put a nice sturdy looking console table like this one and add some decorative pictures frames or wine decanter

Re: suggestions for this area of my house...

I wouldn't go with a table set in the middle of that space. I would suggest a console table (either below the window or right next to the radiator) with two ottomans underneath and some photos and vase with flowers for some color.

Something like this...
