I think i saw a post about this a long time ago with a similar situation. I believe the girl called the company about it and they sent her a new one.
Give that a try!

I had this problem. I called, and they sent me a new battery, and it works perfect again now. If it's a little older (2-3yrs) you may have to buy the battery. It's $9.99 on their website. Good luck!

Re: Summer Night and Day Handheld Monitor - battery dying?
I have the same problem. I emailed customer service and this is what they said.
"You can purchase a new battery directly through us at the below phone number for $19.99. If your monitor is still covered under the one year warranty, the battery can be replaced free of charge.
Also, we would like to offer a few suggestions to prolong the life of your battery. You basically want to treat it like you would a cell phone. When you first receive your battery, you want to charge it for the initial 12-16 hour period continuously. After that, you want to take it off of the cord. Anytime it is plugged in, the battery is being charged. You only want to have the handheld plugged in if the battery needs to be charged, and for no more than 8 hours at a time after that initial charge. Some people like to keep it plugged in for prolonged periods of time which can actually kill the battery by building a memory and cause it to hold less or virtually no charge at all. If you have already been following these precautions, then I apologize for the lengthy explanation. Your fully charged battery should hold a charge for about 10 hours."
