Re: Super competitive mommies
I'm not competitive in a sense of that my kids are better than anyone else's, but I hold on to whatever I can. Like Joseph can read, he was always a very verbal kid. Joseph is also whacking kids & get thrown out of school. The fact that my kid can read is something I can focus on to make me feel better. I'm sure the Unabomber's mother felt the same way. He can take apart clocks & build bombs - never mind that he can't socialize & get along with his peers.
So when she asks a "When did Jake do ..." question, you can say "I'm sure you have written down somewhere..." or say "I don't really want to talk about Jake. How's your marriage?" In the meantime, pity poor Suzie. Remember these conversations when Suzie gets trashed for the first time. That poor girl is going to have plenty of insecurities.

Re: Super competitive mommies
I hate those situations. Why some peolpe can not understand that every baby is different? Poor Susie with such a pushie mom!
Why don't you make up something... like "according to Dr. XXX babies who stand before 9 months would get lower IQ's in the future?" or something like that...

Seriously though can't you just roll your eyes and give her the finger?
The only drawback to this plan is that Susie will learn to give people the finger before Jake does....
to you Sandra.

Re: Super competitive mommies
I don't have friends that compare their kid to mine, but I have been with families who constantly reinforce competitive behaviors in their child...like if my child has something like a balloon or an ice cream, they immediately have to run and give their child a balloon or an ice cream...even if the kid hasn't noticed or even said a word! It's pretty darn annoying actually.
