Supermarket bakery for b-day cake?
Just wondering if anyone has had a really yummy cake from a supermarket bakery. I am getting ready for DS's 1st b-day and don't want to spend a ton of $$ on a cake, but I want it to be good. Any recommendations?
ETA-I like BJ's/costco cakes, but don't need one that big. Only having close family.
Also, does anyone know a ballpark figure that a bakery would charge for a character type cake, maybe like a 1/2 sheet cake size? Just trying to get an idea, haven't priced any yet. TIA!

Re: Supermarket bakery for b-day cake?
ive gotten over 5 cakes from the super market. i actually was surprised at how good the pathmark cakes are i ask that they make it that morning and have gotten two canoli cakes from there. stop and shop is also good. the last cake i got at waldbaums was good too. so much cheaper than going to a bakery. my local bakery wanted 65 for a 14 inch cake.

honestly...a bakery is going to charge more than costco is - might as well go with a costco one and send famly home with leftovers or freeze some,

we got one from stop and shop and I think it was around $40 for half a sheet. My bakery wanted $90 to do the same cake. It was yummy too.

Non mommy here-but I was going to suggest KK in Mt Sinai-they did my college graduation cake, every single birthday cake since I was younger, including my recent 28th birthday cake and they are fabulous and super cheap! People were raving about the cake at my parties and when company comes over and they have a look of shock on their face when you tell them King Kullen!
ETA-We had them re-create our top layer of our wedding cake at King Kullen for our anniversary and not only was it cheap (15-20 dollars), but it was yummier than my wedding cake (the one on the day-the defrosted top layer was nasty!)

I paid 34 for a 10 inch cake that fed 20 with power rangers on it.
