Supermarket pet peeves
Nothing bugs me more when I go to the supermarket than slow people and aisle dawdlers - - people who park themselves smack in the middle of an aisle with their cart and stare blankly at the shelves oblivious to the people around them trying to get by!
What bugs you at the supermarket?

Re: Supermarket pet peeves
Same thing bugs me. Also long lines at the deli area, and the workers and all chatting and goofing off I also HATE when people with more than 12 items go on the express line

Re: Supermarket pet peeves
Our supermarket has self checkout now, which I love, but before that, like clockwork, I would ALWAYS get in the line where someone in front of me would have some type of problem and I'd be there FOREVER!!!!

Re: Supermarket pet peeves
The deli line! There is never not a line! Another "peeve" happened to me tonight. A lady in front of me unpacks half her cart, puts the divider up, unpacks the other half..She had 2 orders. I guess this happens a few times, but when theres only 2 registers open and they cant find a manager to bring someone "up front" it does get quite annoying!

when the cashier throws my stuff down the belt...I have stopped to ask them whats wrong, and when they say nothing I say "then why are you throwing my food at me". That drives me nuts. I dont need the glass breaking, the soda all shaken up thank you..

What bugs you at the supermarket?
Same as yours or when people just stop and start talking.

the glass has probably never broken from being "thrown down the belt" and your soda gets more "shaken up" on the way home then it does from being "thrown down the belt"

i realize you are a cashier but haven't you been on the customer side - do you appreciate the cashier tossing your stuff down the belt? I don't. There's no reason to do that (toss it).

Re: Supermarket pet peeves
My supermarket pet peeves are when something is on sale and you go like the first day or 2 of the sale yet there is nothing on sale left ( at least nothing you were looking for)
SLOW cashiers and LONG lines
People who are in la-la land as the walk around the supermarket and just slam into you ( of your 2 year old son ) or stop suddenly while you are right behind them.
People that hog a certain section of shelf or freezer and you can't get in to get what you need
When the store is a mess and the workers are all laughing and goofing off
Oh and when cashiers are gossiping with eachother back and forth as you wait to pay and they are making fun of other customers!?!?!?!?
ETA: Also the fact that they carry balloons ( that are usually half dead b/c they have been there so long) and have those stupid toy machines right by the exit... my son has a temper tantrum every time we go food shopping b/c I refuse to buy that JUNK!

Re: Supermarket pet peeves
I am sorry in advance... god will strike me down tonight on the way home...
... but I CANNOT go food shopping during the week during the day with the armies of old ladies out and about.
I don't have a problem with our senior citizens in general... but they bytch and whine about EVERYTHING.
And its not even like I live in the ghetto... I live in a VERY nice area of queens and I am sure these ladies have enough cash in the bank to not bytch about being overcharged 10 cents for her loaf of bread.
And to make matters even worse... the cashiers during the day are usually older folk themselves! So they will double bytch back to the customers causing a big feud to happen!

oh i didnt realize you started your new job - sorry. correct me if i am wrong, but werent u a cashier at pathmark before the bank? i dont think donna was implying that they throw them...just toss them.
one of my pet peeves about the supermarket is when you are going up and down the aisles and of course there is another person going at the same pace as you....and they have a screaming kid or one that runs up and down the aisle with the cart!

Throw may seem a little harsh. But I have seen plenty of cashiers "gently toss" (if you want to call it that) items down the lane.
Lets just say that they "move" some items strong enough that would make eggs crack.

Maybe.... but I have seen some cashiers that definitely need to "lighten up". This doesn't bother me as much as the story I posted above though. Frankly I don't care how it gets in my bag as long as it gets in there safely.
Just my two cents.

Re: Supermarket pet peeves
As I worked in Foodtown for three years in high school... "I need a price!!!", "I need the Key" I REALLY HATE food shopping. I figure every Sat and Sun (8-10 hour days) for three years... I served my time. I'll run in but the big weekly trip is all DH.
