Re: Supreme Court Decision - Denies death penalty for child rape cases

Despite having what many would consider "conservative" views, I am staunchly opposed to the death penalty. So, I agree with the court's decision.

death is harsher and them knowing they could get it will deter them or any potential predator from harming children

they should not be allowed to walk this earth!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

I find this ruling very disturbing.

What it means that no matter how many kids you rape or torture, as long as you don't kill them, you will just go to jail.

What an incentive to stop crime!

Child molesters CANNOT be rehabilitated so in essence after 30 years they are back in the street and doing it AGAIN. Like we have seen it so many times on the news. Then it's too late, they actually kill the kid and we wonder how it could have happen again, why they are back in the street, etc...

I personally find children rape to be one of the most hineous crime.

i agree that this type of crime is incredibly heinous, but as you said yourself - they CANNOT be rehabilitated, because this is such an extreme sickness. that does not mean they deserve to be killed for it, IMO.

In my opinion, they DO deserve to die. Mainly because of the damage they have done. It's not just like robbing a bank. It's about torturing a human being so young. The VERY least I would expect if life in prison without the chance of parole. So many go out of jail after 30 years and do it again. They can't help it! They are sick! Yet, society should have not to suffer the consequences of such dangerous people just because they are sick. The fact that they are sick does not make it OK.

ETA: one of those post I could not keep quiet.Chat Icon If I had finished law school I would have specialized in being a child advocate.

i am not a parent (yet) and i cannot say that my opinion will or will not change after Chat Icon is born.

i totally respect your opinion, and i can definitely understand wanting to kill the b@stard yourself if the Court will not do it for you.

i think i might have a different perspective b/c of my education (i have a masters in forensic psychology, not that it makes me an expert, but i have seen/researched many cases on pedophilia, as well as other crimes against children). this is why i stated that i felt it was a sickness that could not/should not be punished with the dealth pentalty.

but, as i said, i have NO idea what my perspective as a parent would be because i am just not there yet.

Oh I know they are sick. I also they will deny it even caught in the act. I still think that does not make it OK.
